Film Production Major Applying to Chapman/USC/LMU

Please let me know what my chances are.
I have a 3.11 (unweighted) GPA and my ACT is a 19 and my SAT is a 1200 (I don't test well)

However, I've been attending and working at a film production studio since I was 12. I've worked on several production sets as a PA, done BTS, interned for the company, and developed hundreds of skills.

Additionally, I have jobs lined up in LA for the spring and summer because of my previous experience.

I've already applied and sent in a portfolio (for LMU) that I am very proud of which consists of two documentaries, two short films, & one screenplay. And I developed a website for all of the schools that I am applying to as a digital portfolio.

Please please let me know what my chances are of getting in to either Chapman/USC/LMU. Also I am Native American if that helps

Please help and respond, I really need to know

Not sure if you’re local here in So Cal, but if so you could consider visiting each school and meeting with film dept admissions. Let them tell you specifically what you need to do to get into their school. GPA & tests look really low for those schools in general and I would expect film to be even more competitive. Perhaps a couple years of CC with good grades then transfer in. Good luck!

I’ve visited with every school, I’m not from California. I live out of state.

Hey for your chapman portfolio how did you upload your video essay with the small size limit? thanks

All schools would be a reach based on your GPA and ACT/SAT scores. I agree with @arc918, you should consider going to a CC for 2 years to prove you are able to handle college level material and then apply as a transfer.

Some BFA Film programs will not care a lot about your academic credentials, and will focus on your portfolio submission. I suspect that USC is like NYU/Tisch and Emerson in considering academic criteria in admissions. If so, you probably will not be competitive. I’m not sure about Chapman and LMU. Look at Columbia College Chicago. They have an excellent film department, and they have open admissions.

However the reason for the lower grades is because I suffered with health issues junior and senior year if that helps.

I decreased the size of my Chapman video when lowering the quality of it in Premier when exporting!

For all of the schools I applied to, I made an online website portfolio that included intro videos, creative resume, recs, films I’ve made, documentaries I’ve made, and scripts I’ve written. If that changes anything let me know.

Additionally I applied early action to both LMU and Chapman in early October, so when should I hear?

anyone?
