Film Program Strength?

I was wondering whether UVa has a stronger or weaker film department than U Mich's. From what I've looked into, UVa doesn't seem to have quite as many in depth courses as Michigan but I really fell in love with UVa as a whole. Film is not going to be my only major either, probably a minor at that.

There actually is no Film major at UVa. There is a Film Studies minor through the Media Studies Department. [University of Virginia | Media Studies | Academics | Film Studies Minor](http://www.virginia.edu/mediastudies/academics/filmstudies.html) I also believe the Studio Art department offers some film classes, but I don’t personally have experience with any film classes at UVa. UVa also has a Digital Media Lab that you can rent fancy film equipment, lights, tripods, etc, from. They also offer several short courses each semester on film editing software.

Speaking of film, check out this video made by UVa Students! [YouTube - Thomas Jefferson: The Musical](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Actually, this was filmed using lights and a camera rented from the Digital Media Lab!
Enjoy.

I’ve heard very good things about Kevin Everson’s filmmaking classes (offered through the art department). His students have been getting into top grad programs, too. You’d probably want to combine the more practical, hands-on classes with analytic/critical classes, which are offered through media studies.
