What is your opinion about the Film program at Pitt? Do you know if the Penn State program is better?/If so how much.

Also, would it be possible to major in Film Studies and minor in Marketing at Pitt?

Thanks for your input!

Here’s a list of the courses Pitt is offering in the fall for film studies.

[Film Studies Program Courses](http://www.courses.as.pitt.edu/results-subjspeciala.asp?SUBJ=FILMST&TERM=2111)

You can compare that to what Penn State offers and try to judge the relative strengths of the programs.

Pitt’s program in film, at least the production part of it, is in collaboration with [Pittsburgh Filmmakers](<a href=“Pittsburgh Filmmakers :: Find best hotels”>http://pghfilmmakers.org/). And then there is the advantage, with Pitt, of just being in a city with other art and film resources and communities.

I’d say it’s probably better than most programs, but not as good as one with a dedicated film production major in a film-heavy area (Florida, New York, California.)

Pittsburgh has it’s own slice of film history and is frequently the site for filming, but it’s no California.

If I were to go to California after I completed UPitt with a Film major, would I stand a chance next to people who went to USC or UCLA or FSU(Which I know has a kick-butt film program)?

I’m not in the film industry, so I couldn’t tell you.

My thoughts would be this:

Pitt will give you more freedom to work on projects that you want to work on. You essentially get to pick whatever production courses you want.

USC/UCLA/FSU will give you more contacts and direct industry experience.

I’d probably go with USC/UCLA/FSU unless cost is an issue or you’re more into indie filmmaking.
