I know there are plenty of reaches but I have time to improve SAT, so that can help me if I get like 130+ improvement (Got 170 pt increase from just a few weeks of hitting the books)

THANKS

It's always great to raise an SAT, but I think in addition you should add more schools that have easier chances for admission than these. Nobody can tell you chances on a film school based on academic stats and EC's. So much depends on the creative portfolio you'll submit to these schools, and nobody here can see your stuff on that.
Even Scorcese or Spielberg might not get into all of these schools, it's so quirky.
Please find some safeties as well, which for film schools just means MORE schools, since nothing is ever "safe."
Suggestions; Univ of Michigan, Chapman, Ithaca, Emerson, SUNY-Purchase, Columbia, Wesleyan (for film studies as a kind of fallback)...

Note: Wesleyan is no easier to get into than Vassar (though I think you have a decent shot at both, since they are both acedemically focused schools, and your stats on that count are really good).

Weskid, I agree^^

My only point is to add more schools, since with a film major and reviews of creative portfolio, nobody can guarantee admissions based on good academics.

The strategy to pick more schools, such as Vassar, Wesleyan, Columbia etc.
where there is a film studies or even just a theater major, available to all comers without audition, would add to his safety opportunities.

Film school/department admissions run around 8-12 % in the film schools the OP listed.

That's more selective than anything on the academic radar screen, including Ivies and elite LAC's.

I encourage theater and film hopefuls to create more safeties by adding schools. Also, it is wise to consider a peppering of some different kinds of programs (such as non-audition majors, or related majors) so they're not left high-and-dry with no place to attend the following September.

Wesleyan has an excellent film studies department, I've heard! And I love their ethnomusicology big gong as you walk over to the green. I also know someone who transferred from NYU - CAS (Honors) to Wesleyan, because she had a passion for theater, yet felt happier socially and more productive academically on Wesleyan's green campus. So you really have to "fit" wherever you go.

I agree, though I think he should also seek out other non-film schools that are less selective for true safties (because, even though these schools are not as selective as film schools, they are still pretty iffy, even for the best canidates!). But yeah, I totally think that regular colleges with a good film major is a great idea for a film student's matches/safties (especially because a school like Wes, Columbia or Vassar, with a strong film department, a good reputation overall, and a strong alumni base can be VERY good at launching someone into a film career).

The University of Texas at Austin's Radio-TV-Film program is supposed to be good and they aren't as selective on their admissions as the others mentioned. You don't even submit a separate application to the film school. It's decided by the admissions dept. UT is somewhat selective, but your academics look great. It wouldn't hurt to get the SAT's up some, though you might get in with what you have.

The Austin film community is thriving and it's the home of the South by Southwest Film Festival.

You and my son would probably hit it off. In addition to being interested in film, he also has done "attorney stuff" (with YMCA Youth & Government) and has ridden twice in the MS150. It appears that you cram way too much stuff into your schedule too, like he does. :-)

For research purposes, I just heard a good link from another thread, so am spreading the wealth here:
