I have been accepted into the film programs at California State University: Northridge, San Diego State University, San Francisco State University, and Ithaca College I am having a hard time deciding which school I should go to. I’m from New Jersey however money is not really an issued for me because I will apply to alot of scholarships. Any advice as to which school I should go to? I love editing, directing, and even acting. Which school have a lot of connection, internships, and the best dorm life/ “parties”? Thanks!
And I’m will become a undergraduate freshmen fall 2015!
Congrats on being accepted into so many film programs. Hopefully you got to visit some of these campuses and heard first hand what the staff & students there think of their programs. I have to admit that we haven’t visited any of the California schools mentioned.
I suggest you do more research on each school and then go with your gut. This site is a good place to start and there is a ton of information in the various threads about the schools you mention. I’ve attached the link to one article, though somewhat dated, that lists the top film schools. Two of the schools you mention are on the list. But don’t stop there. Do your own research and decide which school is the best “fit” for you.

Have you posted on each school’s cc?
Also, it’s easy to say money’s isn’t an issue, but it’s an important factor you need to consider, wherever you decide to go. Those scholarships aren’t yours yet and there’s lots of competition for them. Even the cost of flying back and forth between NJ and CA can be an issue if you want to come home for holidays, etc. You don’t want to go into debt when you could be using the money to shoot your first feature.
Good Luck, but remember it’s not the school you attend which determines your future, it’s you!
I’m not an expert on the Cal State schools by any means, (CSUN, SDSU, SFSU), but I’ll weigh in.
First, please realize that the Calif State University schools tend to be commuter schools. My impression is that SFSU is mainly commuter, CSUN has more dorms, and SDSU has the most dorms, but I’m not positive. You should check their websites and some blogs to find the number of students who live on or near campus vs the commuter students.
SDSU will have the best “party” life. It is quite a party school. SFSU is the least party (I think) and CSUN is in the middle.
CSUN will give you the most options for internships and connections. It is located really close to Burbank, Studio City, etc where there are a ton of studios (film and TV) and there are a fair number of industry types that come from CSUN.
Personally, it I were going to FTV, I would choose CSUN because of the possible internship and connection possibilities.
@YoHoYoHo thanks for the feedback! I think I’m going to CSUN!
