I know that Florida State has a good film school but I was curious about people who are actually enrolled. What is it like? Did it exceed your expectations?

And if you could chance me that would be awesome! I'm in junior in hs
GPA- 4.07 W 3.89 UW
ACT- Haven't taken but I think 28
SAT- Got 1600 on PSAT out of 2400 well i think
EC's- Good, average not nationally acclaimed or anything
OOS

Hopefully you’ll get a response from a film school student, but they tend to be busy.

Suffice to say that FSU’s Film School preselects students on the front-end (by selecting only a few) as opposed to other schools that select on the back-end (by admitting hundreds).

Only a handful get in each year, so I am not sure there is anyone posting here who is in the film school. Last I knew, they took about 30 freshman out of more than 2000 applications. There is a supplementary application of course, and an interview process. It is such a limited access program that we just couldn’t possibly chance you on it. But GODD LUCK!. You will know you are in the running if you get an interview.

Has anyone been contacted for an interview, or have a perspective to where they are in the interview process?

There guidelines for this year said interviews would be in March and April, but in reviewing this site for 2008 comments, it looked like folks were contacted in early February with interviews conducted in mid to late February.

Perhaps we should start a “FSU Film School Applicants” thread so we can all worry together!

Annkr2001- There is a lot of confusion about the dates because of graduates posting when they got their calls without specifying that they are not applying to the undergrad program. From what I have collected, it would seem that graduate applicants are contacted early February (feb 1st) for their interviews which take place throughout mid and late february. Then, it would seem, the first week of March begins the process of calling undergraduate applicants for interviews. Then the transfers are done last I believe…for the last interview date which was on the 8th and 9th of April last year. I’m just patching together all the little bits of info I’ve heard here and there to come up with this theory. So if I am right, next week should be a big week for undergrad applicants! Good luck!

Hey all, just curious if anyone else has been contacted about being interviewed? I got an email today. Typically how many people are selected for interviews before they narrow it down even more?

Lets hope that they didn’t send out all the emails today because I’m still looking for mine. Good to know that the gears are finally in motion though!

My son received an e-mail for undergrad film on 3/10 also. He’s going for the interview the last weekend in March. We have to fly there, hope it’s worth it. He’s excited. He just went on the SUNY Purchase Film Conservatory interview & that went well but the campus is soooo dreary and old, it’s depressing. He was accepted to SVA & wanted to go there (School of Visual Arts in NYC) but it’s very expensive and he didn’t get any scholarship money.

congrats, i dnt have an email, hopefully that’s not a bad sign >_>

EDIT: OMG I AM ■■■■■■■■! DID NOT EVEN SEE THE EXTRA REQUIREMENTS FOR THE MAJOR (dvd, recs, etc). Damn IT! How Did I Miss That!? shoot, i probly got rejected.

Hey everyone-- I also applied to the Film School (B.A.) and was rejected. I only know because I knew of someone else who got the email and was curious about whether or not there was going to be another wave of emails so I called the office and asked about another wave. Instead of telling me that, the woman I spoke to said she would check for my name on “the list”. Then she came back on and told me I was not on said “list” and hung up. Anyway, good luck to everyone who got an email-- I’ll probably see you next year at FSU anyway!
By the way, rsxwheeeeee, the undergrad program does not allow a dvd or any portfolio materials (besides a film resume)…are you reffering to the MFA program?
