So my sister is a junior in high school who is starting to put together her college list. For the past few years she has been set on doing film. I think she is planning to look at USC and NYU for obvious reasons, but both of those schools are pretty expensive and extremely selective; it is clear that her list needs to be expanded. That being said, does anyone have any suggestions for schools that still have good film programs that may not have as high a profile as USC or NYU? It would also be great if I could hear from any students that are currently studying film at other schools. As for the kind of school, she is not too sure what she is looking for; her only requirements at this point are that she doesn't want to be in rural area and she doesn't want to go to a tiny school. I would appreciate any suggestions you guys have!

Emerson College has a pretty expansive film program. There are several different majors or concentrations under the film category there. It is still expensive though.

Chapman, UCLA…

Wesleyan U.

Sarah Lawrence
Loyola Marymount
Arizona State
Cal Arts
UNC School of the Arts
Syracuse
DePaul
Boston University
U Pittsburg
Drexel (?)

Thanks for all of the suggestions guys! Do any of you have any additional suggestions for film schools in the Midwest? Especially in Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, or Indiana?

As for Indiana, look at both Ball State & Indiana University.

Thanks KaMaMom! I’ll tell her to take a look at those.

Also can look into Emerson (Boston)
