Does anyone know much about the film studies major at Columbia? In particular, is there any/much opportunity for actual film production for an undergraduate student? (Or, is it mostly film criticism and screenwriting?)

Any ideas on how a film studies major experience at Columbia might compare to the NYU/Tisch Film and Television undergraduate program?

Any comments (or helpful links, etc.) would be most appreciated!

I only know second hand info but a friend of mine is a film studies jr. As a final project for one of his classes this semester he has to direct his own film…he’s had other classes where it’s just analyzing too tho.

I’d say call or email the film dep’t and see what they say.

P.S. film is like 90% girls, it’s like being in a barnard class…so it’s a good way to meet females (tho you run into the difficulties of incest with those in ur major) = )
