Film: Video or Script

I have a script written but I may not have enough time to get it done on a reel. As in film it.
Any tips on format of script and things I should include?

Should I explain to the audience concepts and twists involved in the story? Or let them figure it out?

Also should I send in a storyboard along with my script? If I should how detailed should it be? Stick figures or as specific as possible? My artistic abilities go beyond stick figures so it's not a problem if I have to draw in detail.

I'm applying to Syracuse, NYU, BU, and Ithaca

Do I need to hand in more than one? Because as far as I can tell from the websites one will suffice. Unless i'm seeing things wrong.

Anyone know if Ithaca requires a video too? If they do could you please send me the link in their website that says so?

Also how big of an impact will my video put on admissions? Will it be weighed more than, for example, senior grades?

Thanks in advance for your help and opinions.

bump........

These are my opinions...I know little about film school.

It depends. If you are applying to film school, I suspect it would be a good idea, but if you cannot create something well done, then you will likely shoot yourself in the foot and it might be best to submit just the script.

If the script is well-written there should not be a need to explain anything. If it is poorly written, I guess you would need to, but in that case there's no reason to submit it whatsoever.

Why sell yourself short? Put your best foot forward, especially if you are not going to film it.

You should ask an admissions rep directly what is required.

Why don't you call Ithaca College and ask them?

Generally there is no formula for admissions. If you have a great script that might be your ticket. If you have top grades that might be your ticket. If you have both, great! Neither? You're probably sunk.

Put your best foot forward and that's that.

excellent description with examples:

If you have Microsoft Word, you can create your own script writing program if you know how to use styles and short-cut keys.

digmedia that link was a HUGE help. Thank you so much

it sucks you couldn't get a video in, but definately send in the story board if you have a good one. it's not good to overload schools with stuff but if you have that to go along with your script i think they'd appreciate it.
