so i got my financial aid package a while ago and i have done all the paperwork for the sub/unsub federal loans. how is the grants like pell and loans get distributed? do they directly go to the school or do they go to my account and then i give it to the school? if its 26k (tuition, room, board) for semester and i got 23k in aid including pell, grant, and loan, do i need to open a band account for financial aid refund if i get any (i dont know if i will)?

Hi there! basicaly, the government and most scholarship organizations send the money to the school, and if there’s anything left after it’s covered your bills the school gives you that refund. You should probably get a bank account just as a matter of course in case you get a job or a refund later on or something like that.

in your case, since you owe $26,000 and you only have $23,000, you’re not going to get refund – you might just owe the school some additional money.
