Fin Aid for Continuing Students: Pins and Needles.

Does anyone know of the exact date in July when it is supposed to be released? My cash-strapped parents and I are eagerly awaiting it.

Hopefully for you...it should be any day. Last year it seems they took their sweet time and I didn't get my package until mid-July.

I actually asked the financial aid office recently, and was told that they are not all released at the same time. I would guess it could arrive any day now, but it's impossible to say, and the financial aid office won't give any clear answers.

Do they usually give the same amount of aid that they gave you as an incoming student? Or do they try to charge you a lot more? I am worried because I had a good FA package coming into Cornell ( I appealed and got an extra 6K in grants last year), but my parents made an extra 5-6K this year. I feel like this will give them an excuse to charge me a lot more. Any thoughts?

My thought is that your package would not be as generous as last year's, not only because of the extra income but also because every year they expect the student to contribute more through summer earnings. Also, the cost of attendance went up a bit. But that's just my prediction, I'm also going to be a second-year returning student. My family's already shaky finances actually took a pretty significant hit in the past year, so also I'm pretty worried about how much aid Cornell will give me.

5-6k diff can affect you esp if you go over the 60k mark

When you all go on JtF, do you all see a charge for Fall '08 tuition on your bursar...? I see that, but no award message.

Is anybody else having trouble logging onto JTF?

I am. I try logging on and it just keeps loading and loading and not going anywhere.

I had the same exact problem, but now I'm able to get to the Student Center.

I also see a charge for the Fall '08 tuition (the amount is likely incorrect, possibly because of aid not disbursed), but no aid notification.

JTF might not be working for you b/c your account is being worked on by Cornell...

please be patient as finAid wont start rolling in until the end of this month...

My FA isn't up yet but i went on jtf and the amount I owe shows ~11000. I assume thats because FA because i don't owe anything else though that is more than double what i paid for FA /term last year... I hope i don thave to pay 2x+ this year for tuition..

AnbuItachi, this seems to happen often. Beginning semester bills are either printed out before financial aid is disbursed, and it's silly because we are told to pay the billed amount less the pending financial aid. On other occasions, the bills are simply incorrect. I had to call up the bursar office and correct my bill at least three times last year.

This year Cornell is limiting loans to 3,000 dollars for students whose families make between 60,000 and 120,000. So, this is probably a big improvement for a lot of returning students in the middle class.

Meanwhile, for the 2008-2009 transition period, the University will replace loans for students with family incomes under $60,000 and cap loans at $3,000 for those with household incomes between $60,000 and $120,000.

Do we get an e-mail when Fin Aid is posted, or do we (I) have to keep checking JtF like four times a day?

Some continuing student let us know when you get the award, please? Thanks.

From what I understand, the financial aid along with the charges will be posted on the bursar on July 19th, and the payment will be due on August 8th.
