Fin aid for internationals?

What's the financial aid scene for international students? I've heard USC is pretty cringy but how much? Is a full financial aid package unheard of for internationals?

i read that financial aid for internationals are “need”-based… but is it true that if i apply, my acceptance rate falls? is it better for me to not apply for them if i really want to get into usc? and also, the merit-based scholarships… will my acceptance rate fall if i apply to them as well?? sorry for asking it here…but im a curious international

International students are eligible for **merit **aid at USC, and applying for merit aid will not have a negative impact on your admissions decision. Unfortunately, International students are not eligible for need-based aid. And while USC is need-blind for US applicants, there is a U.S. Government requirement that International students submit a Financial Statement showing they can pay tuition and living expenses for the first year before a letter of admission can be sent.

From the USC website:

[International Students - USC Undergraduate Admission](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/inter_students.html)

Again, this is not a USC requirement, it is a requirement of the U.S. Government.
The required form can be found here: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/0910/Form8.pdf

wait so would i, as an international applicant currently residing in the US (for 6 years), have to turn in this financial statement for other private colleges too?

if it is the requirement set by the government, it sounds like this kind of financial statement form will be required for other private colleges too? is it true?

and what if my parents do not have that much money (50k) in their bank account? at least not until february or sometime later? would it be okay to turn it in later than the December 1st deadline? i already submitted my application and is waiting for scholarship…

thanks in advance

I don’t get it. Why would we need to say we need to pay if we’re aiming for merit aid and nothing else. If I don’t get merit aid, then I sure as hell am not going. What I don’t get is WHY I have to say I can pay when I clearly cannot.

Because USC don’t want to be wasting acceptance letters on people who cannot afford to enroll.

But if your attending USC depends on getting merit aid why do you need to show proof?

I mean, if USC offers to pay your tuition or you win a scholarship, it doesn’t matter hoiw much your family income is does it? This is actually pretty weird… I can never show my family income to come even remotely close to the cost of attending USC…but it just so might happen that I get enough aid to be able to attend…someone from USC needs to clear this up.

I think the point is that you are not certain that you’re going to get enough aid (after all, the Trustee and Presidential scholarships are very competitive) and therefore if they don’t give you a scholarship for whatever reason, they need to know that you can still pay, or else it would be a wasted acceptance that could have gone to someone who can definitely enroll should they decide.
