Congratualtions to those who got accepted!!!

Concerning financial aid questions:

I am a Canadian student, am I regarded as International student or local student? What is the different in term of chance to get fin aid?

Will the chance of being get accepted be lower if you apply for fin aid?

I know that Penn is need blind basis, can those who got accepted ED in Wharton give some statistics whether they have applied for fin aid?

Question1. You are a canadian student, but are you a canadian citizen? If you are a canadian citizen, you will have need blind admissions at penn.

Penn states:

Penn maintains a policy of need-blind admissions for citizens and permanent residents of the U.S., Canada and Mexico. Financial assistance to very few students who are not citizens or permanent residents of the U.S., Canada or Mexico.

If you have concerns about your family’s ability to meet your educational expenses, you may consider applying for financial aid. However, you will be in competition for very limited funds. Please note these guidelines:

If You Require Financial Aid [ul]
[]Students who absolutely require such funding should submit Penn's Institutional Financial Aid Application, but they should also understand that they are in competition for very limited funds.
[]Penn will not admit a financial aid candidate for whom we cannot provide aid. As a result, some candidates we would otherwise want to admit will be turned away.
[li]International applicants who anticipate the need for financial aid at any time during their four-year course of study must make this anticipated need known at the time of application.
[/li]

[/ul]

Students who receive financial aid are assured of continued support for all of their undergraduate years, if they continue to demonstrate financial need.

All of their financial aid is need based. Someone elses aid package may not be and probably is not going to be reflective of the package that you would receive because you may bring different situations/circumstances to the table.

I would suggest using one of the financial aid calculatiors (use the institutional model) so that you coul have some idea of your EFC.

thanks sybbie. I'm a canadian citizen. That means i'm able to get financial aid on blind need basis just like the american students. the assessment of the application and financial aid will handle separately. Once you get admitted, the school will start to assess your financial requirement and give you sufficient fin aid. Am I right?

By the way, how many ivy league schools are needed blind? How about U of Chicago, New yORK U, Tufts, U of Michigan, Craige Mellon, Standford, Duke, are they needed blind?

I know that Michigan doesn't guarantee to meet all financial need. Financial assistance for out-of-state students is generally harder to come by, as Michigan is a public university. I'm not sure if being from Canada makes you an "international" student at Michigan, but if it does, I don't think Michigan gives much aid (if any) to international students.
