So currently my tax returns and my electronic verification signature have the status as "needed" and have been needed ever since June 1. However, I didn't know that only up until now and am very worried about my aid eligibility. I called the fin aid office but I couldn't get through because their lines are busy. Does anyone have any advice on what my next steps should be to ensure my aid, if any? I plan on calling them again (and again) but some help would be gladly appreciated. thanks

Chances are they haven’t updated the info in the computers. My D was asked for verification info which we sent in May. I urged her a couple of weeks ago to call FA and make sure they had everything , so we could correct any problem. The girl at FA told her according to the computer, they had received nothing. She called back later in the day, and spoke to a different person who pulled her file and told her they had everything, but she had to go down to sign something or other, which she did, and again verified everything was okay, Yesterday was the FA deadline and she made one more call, and again she was told the computer showed nothing, but when she had someone pull her file everything was there. I would guess that you are in the same situation, they just haven’t inputted the data.

I’m pretty sure I didn’t send in the electronic verification and the 2008 tax return given that my dad JUST filed his 2008 tax return. So now I’m in limbo land, calling the financial aid office every thirty minutes to only be sent off with a “high volume of calls” and “call back later” and a cheery “goodbye.” I’m hoping that if I mail a copy of the tax return and the electronic verification by the end of this week I’ll still be eligible for aid. Even if my aid does get postponed by a quarter or semester, any is SO much better than nothing. With the cut of Cal Grants and the messy business of this economy, money is extremely hard to come by these days.

Why wait til the end of the week? Mail it today, at the PO with a tracking number so you know when they receive it. Give them a few days to process and then start calling. There’s nothing they can really tell you until they have what they need in hand!
