When I logged in to my fin. aid status site, I had a new (not there last week) "to do" asking for the Fed. verification worksheet to be sent to Cornell by May 1. It also stated that this sheet would not be considered late as long as it was sent within 2 weeks of notification. Does this mean anything acceptance-wise? Would they be asking for this in any case whether I was accepted or not?

I got this message too but I dont exactly know what it means …hope fully something good !

I got this as well but I don’t think it means anything. I emailed Cornell a few weeks back about it and they said that the government would notify Cornell if you need to submit it. (The government determines who needs to submit it based on the FASFA process.)
However, I do find it odd that the due date is 5/1/2012. Shouldn’t it be 2011?
Oh, and how would I know when the date of notification was? I can’t seem to find it in the notice…

If it’s any help, I was accepted on friday to the hotel school and I have it on my fin. aid status.

On another note I still have “Parents’ 2010 Tax Returns” listed as one of my to-do items. Does that mean I haven’t done it yet or is it just there for everyone? I clearly remember submitting this stuff electronically last month but have yet to receive a confirmation or anything. I’m surprised the financial aid office hasn’t contacted me for it… (no emails or anything besides that post.)

I don’t think it has any sort of indication of your Fall admissions. However, I am not sure. I am just curious why my fin aid page has two extra due dates: 3/30/2011 and 5/1/2012.

…Due 2012…Hm…the plot thickens.

Annbet, I had that same notice about parent 2010 tax returns up until a few days ago. I had sent the forms over a month ago, so Cornell must just be behind in updating the site. and as for the fed. verification form, should I fill it out and send it in now? or wait and pray for an acceptance first. We’re talking another 10 days…still plenty of time before May 1, 2012!

Annbet and beniben, I have the notice about 2010 tax returns on my to-do list as well. I’m sure I’ve sent those forms before the 2/15 deadline as well. My page said the deadline for those forms are 2/15/2011, not 5/1/2012 as many of you said… Should I be worried?

Yea May 1, 2012 is a long time from now ! And I had the 2010 tax returns up for a while but I submitted mine about 3 weeks ago and it isn’t there any more, the only thing that’s there is the mysterious verification thing …

Verification is a process to confirm information you provided on the FAFSA. The U.S. Department of Education selects some FAFSAs for verification while others are selected by schools due to discrepancies in their data. I have read that about 30% of submitted FAFSAs are selected for this.
The 2011-12 FAFSA can be filled out and filed anytime after Jan 1, 2011 until the end of the 2011-12 academic year. That may be the reason for the May 1, 2012 date people are seeing. Cornell wants the verification May 30th apparently.

what is the point of the verification thing if someone never received any child support or ss benefits??

@elec
I still have the message because I only sent tax forms with estimated 2010 taxes by the 2/15 date. Will send the real thing tomorrow.

My big question is that they’re asking for this verification (with May 1st deadline), and I haven’t received an acceptance…no likely letter, nothing
…I was just hoping this might be a good news kinda thing?

I thought that Cornell did not look at Financial Aid as having anything to do with acceptance…so would’nt they be asking for this data regardless. I don’t think it is any indication of acceptance, I think it is standard protocol…seems all the schools have “to do” lists for fin aid.

Yes, you are most probably right. Makes sense to me. I suppose I was just looking for ANY hint or clue or indication that I stood a chance. Just so I could maybe relax a little bit.

I doubt it means much. I was accepted via a likely and I don’t have this notification.

Mine says due May 1st, 2011 like everyone else, but right below that it says that the form is due in two weeks? Anyone else have this problem?

Beniben…yes… completely understand. My son would be a lot more relaxed (as well as his Dad) if we knew for sure that he got into Cornell. Oh well, 9 more days of wondering and then its over.

oh geez, I just checked mine and it doesn’t have this up there. The only thing it says I need to turn in is my student tax returns, but I did not file for taxes and I sent the form saying that, so I’m not sure why that is still up there. But anyway, yeah I don’t have any verification form thing or whatever, so I guess I’ll just have to wait until March 30. But I’m really not expecting to get in Cornell, so it definitely could be an indication (or may not, we won’t know for sure until the decisions are released).
