Fin. Aid

I should of posted this in here but are my chances of getting into private schools better if I do not need any aid
From the school or any help? Since I won't be taking from the school

If you don’t NEED any financial aid and can pay the full cost of attending, this is sometimes helpful. BUT you still have to be a competitive candidate for admissions. This would only be true for schools that are NOT need blind for admissions.

The reality is that most schools are need blind for admissions…the admissions folks have no idea how much aid you need.

If you are placed on the Waiting List for many private schools, including many “need blind”, your chances will be greatly enhanced if you do not need FA. If a school has allocated all their FA but they still have room for additional students, it would be foolish to admit someone who they know cannot attend without aid.

Thanks for the helpful information. You guys know your stuff.

Something in the tone of your question makes me wonder if you are thinking of this as a tactic…as in “after I’m accepted I can always apply for FA sophomore year”. Be sure you are truly prepared to pay the sticker price for four years before you commit to something you won’t be able to afford to finish.

I have a trust fund that will cover grad school as well so, no. But good tip for others.

The value of your trust fund will have to be listed on the FAFSA/Profile when you apply for undergraduate aid…unless someone else beside you or your parents is the holder of this trust. If you are the beneficiary of this trust it MUST be listed as an asset on the FAFSA/Profile.

It doesn’t sound like he intends to fill out FAFSA or Profile because he doesn’t need aid.
