I just got my financial aid stuff in the mail today...not even a penny, which really sucks. Anyone get any money?

not even a penny as in scholarship and grant aid?? or not even a penny in the preferred student loan?

josmsith... What college were you admitted to, 'cuz that may have something to do with it.
We got DS's today. A small unsubsidized loan is available, but nothing else. My son is NMF and I was all but sure that he should be getting like $500 from U of I for that, but no scholarships were listed. He is accepted to the College of Engineering. I called the FinAid office and they said they have not gotten any of the scholarship info from CoE yet, so they couldn't show it in this (current) mailing. Once they receive the scholarship info from CoE, they will let people know. Hope this helps

i'm nervous. i guess i'll be getting mine this week then...

i didnt get anything either.... over 15k in all loans..i went to admit day and asked about it and they said that grants are only available to those with less than 7k family contribution.

I have heard that U of I is so broke that it can't afford to meet everyone's financial need. Is this true?

um, what do you mean by that? u of i never was the most affordable school in the world unless you took out lots and lots of loans. it's not like an extremely poor person can attend UIUC. just about everyone here has to have some kind of family support or have quite a few scholarships to be able to attend here. but yes, u of i is getting to be pretty broke and cut backs are being put into place like less scholarships and etc.

umm...i haven't gotten anything in the mail yet. anyone else not get financial aid stuff yet?

Got mine today, it's in an orange packet

i got accepted to northwestern and am going there. compared to UIUC, NU finaid is amazing. UIUC gave me nothing and now NU gave me enough that UIUC College of Business is actually more expensive for me (instate) than going to Northwestern. Didnt even give me a penny

um, what's NU's business program ranked? i know their grad program is good but their undergrad?

Northwestern doesn't have a Business undergrad program....

yea, that's what i was thinking...so are you talking about grad school??

You could always get an Undergrad in Economics and go graduate school for business....maybe he's referring to a non-business major at Northwestern

Don't panic, people. My son is now a junior at UIUC and IIRC, his engineering school scholarships came some time after the official acceptance AND they upped the amount even after the May 1 deadline. Evidently as other people turned them down, they turned this money over to other deserving acceptees. :)

$12,000 in free grant money. 0 EFC
