D was accepted into Lehigh with a great grant per year that is renewable, plus can take out max gov. loan, but not enough to cover costs. What do students do at Lehigh for the x amount of dollars that is not covered? Besides ask Mom and Dad? Thanks.

Bingo - Mom and Dad. Students can apply for a Sallie Mae student loan but Mom and Dad would more than likely have to co-sign since most students don't have credit established. Parent Plus loans are available.

Highly competitive private schools rarely offer a free ride except to those whose EFCs are close to zero. Lehigh offers some merit aid, but most of its FA is for need. Parents are expected to meet their EFC with loans and savings, and students are expected to work.

I was under the impression that merit schol. $$ was awarded on a need-blind basis ( i.e. regardless of one's financial status ). If not, than merit aid is just another form of financial aid ( seemingly ).

i believe some students may qualify for the work-study program, i know Lehigh does offer it.

Yes, MBJ, merit money is need-blind; however, these kind of funds remain scarce overall.
