Finacial aid forms & parent disability

My D is a senior. I filed FAFSA and CSS profile for her already. I just found out today that my H has been forced into long term disability by his company. His salary is set to be cut to 2/3 of current salary when this happens end of February. He was paid a full salary all of last year. BOth the CSS profile and FAFSA reflect this salary. We will not be making that much this year. Not even close. Do collleges take this into consideration when offering financial aid. Will they use THIS years projected disability salary when granting financial aid?

I am worried that my D may not be able to go to college.

Initially, they will only look at the information submitted on the FAFSA and Profile. However, given the situation, you can ask for a professional judgment. Each school will decide, individually, whether they are willing to take the deduction into consideration. There is no federal requirement for them to grant a professional judgment, so there is no guarantee...but it definately doesn't hurt to ask.

You can ask for a special circumstances adjustment to reflect the loss of income. Contact the financial aid departments of your schools and ask what you must do. Good luck.
