I know University of Rochester gives merit based aid, but what about need based?

How much can someone with a very very low EFC (between 0-1k according to most calculators) expect to get in the form of university grants?

How easy is it to find jobs on campus?

Answers to any of these questions would be incredibly helpful.

UR does award need-based aid.

However, it uses the CSS Profile (not FAFSA) to determine EFC. Your Profile and FAFSA EFC may be dramatically different. You can get an rough estimate of what your UR EFC might look like by using the UR FA estimator:

[University of Rochester : Financial Aid Estimator for First-Year Students](http://enrollment.rochester.edu/financial/estimator/)

As for the amount of grants–it’s going to vary on a case by case basis, depending on your EFC and how much UR wants you. (Like many schools, UR practices preferential packaging. Students it wants get better FA offers.)

UR is NOT a no-loan school. You should expect to see a mix of grants, loans and work-study in your FA package. Students also have a summer contribution expectation–typically between $3000-$5000/year.

There are generally sufficient work study jobs available for those awarded work-study, though some of them may be off campus. (Tutoring at the local elementary schools, for example. UR runs shuttle buses to those work sites.)

Some work-study jobs are very competitive, esp those that may be career-related. For example, my D works in a neuro research lab, they interview about 8-10 students for every open position the lab has. Other positions are much less competitive–such as office aides or food service work.
