Finaid and SHIP

So, i got quite a bit of financial aid, with like 9k in grants, 4k in scholarships, 2k in workstudy, then loans, etc..etc... with an EFC (Estimated family contribution) of around 1800. Right now, i'm not sure if i need SHIP but if i do need health insurance next year, and i keep ship, how does it affect my finaid? Does my grant money/loan money/workstudy money/ etc grow in order to meet the raised costs for attending the university to match my EFC of 1800? Or do i need to shell out the extra money on my own to cover SHIP? I'm not sure how this whole finaid thing works, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

SHIP is already included in the student budget, listed in the fees here: [Facts at a glance - UC Berkeley](<a href=“By the numbers - University of California, Berkeley”>By the numbers - University of California, Berkeley)

I believe if you decline SHIP your total student budget just decreases, which would lessen grant money and/or loans or work-study depending on your own finaid package?

i disagree.
If u decline ship, u just get ur $600 back and ur financial aid remains the same.
I think SHIP is included in everyone’s budget regardless if they declined it.

^
so its suggested if you have fin aid. you should just keep the ship? cause its included?

nvm, i was wrong.
“Students who waive out of SHIP will not receive financial aid to cover the cost. Students who choose to keep SHIP will receive an adjustment to their financial aid offer.”

but i would suggest that if u already have health insurance or can get it cheaper, u should waive out of it. i doubt that having/not having SHIP will affect that amount of grants that you’ll get.

I waived out of SHIP for the past 2 years and saved ~ $2500 regardless of financial aid adjustment.

Does anyone have Kaiser?
Whoever waved out of health insurance, what services could you use at TANG?
