I have recently visited skidmore and it is by far my first choice. I want to apply ED round 2 but finacial aid is of great importance to me. I know i would get something because my mom is a school teacher with low income and my dad is unemployed and we are soon to be buying a house which will take much of our savings. Still I want to know if skidmore gives substantial enough financial aid so i wont be forced to pay off loans for the rest of my life. Any advice?

I'd also be interested in how forthcoming Skidmore is with financial aid that is merit-based, in addition to need-based aid. Thanks.

Last year my D was thinking about applying to Skidmore. We attended a tour and discussion session wherein the financial aid rep. said that Skidmore has a preliminary finanical aid form that the prospective student can complete and send to the Financial Aid department. They would review it and send back a non binding finanical aid estimate. We completed the form and were happily surprised with the figures. I would contact the office and see if this is still available. Good luck.

momonthehill--My younger daughter applied and was accepted at Skidmore last year. We really liked the school, but found their financial aid package to be inadequate. While they do give some need-based aid, they're not much on merit money. My 35 ACT, 2290 SAT, 4.83 GPA, National Merit Finalist got not one dime based on her own merits. She ended up at Carleton, where she at least got NMF money!

Thanks, Hindoo. Unfortunately, your post seems to support what I've heard so far about aid at Skidmore. My D does seem to like it a lot and I was very impressed with the campus and the surrounding community, myself. However, if she does end up applying there, she's going to definitely need some comparable alternative choices, or be prepared to take out some loans.

Yes, we felt the same way. Loved the school, loved the location, but needed to be zillionaires to pay her way. We were really stuck in that middle-class crunch--couldn't afford the astronomical tuition, but didn't qualify for a whole lot of need-based aid. (We got some, but not nearly enough.)

our in come is less than 44, 000 and we just bought a house. is that low enough for good finaid

I would hope so, blujeanbebe! Good luck to you!

thanks!! :)
