<p>Sure, you should always talk to them. Best shots: your parents' income for this year/future will be lower than FAFSA 2006 figures. Any siblings in college? Most schools smooth this difference over all four years for you, but you can ask to change it to year-by-year.</p>

<p>I guess you'll just have to explain why the 500k in assets is unusable. If it IS usable, I don't know how you're going to convince them to give you more money.</p>
