FinAid disaster -- crossposted to UW Madison forum

I was finally able to access my Finaid decision online today for UW Madison and I am shocked. They calculated my need at 12 grand, which is what I was expecting, but they're only offering me 6.5 in aid and it's all LOANS. (fed perkins and subsidized stafford).

Is this normal?? Why wasn't I offered any grants? Could this have something to do with them processing my application at such a late date? (I only just sent in a document they needed about two weeks ago). I talked to a rep over the phone and he assured me there was enough money to go around and not to worry.

well at least you get aid... i haven't gotten anything. my estimated financial thing just showed loans added up to the total cost

Unless you are a Wisconsin resident, it is unlikely that a school funded by taxpayer dollars will offer any grants. I also believe that merit aid from the University would be restricted to Wisconsin residents.
