finaid in 2, 3rd, 4t year

Can some students and parents explain how and when finaid results are announced during the 2nd, 3rd,.. years. Is it the same process as for the freshman year or smoother/faster?

it has been my experience that the financial aid process is much smoother in subsequent years, if only by the plain and simple fact that you are now only sending information to one school (provided that your student is not transferring). In our house we just update the fafsa and send in our taxes and a few supplemental forms through the idoc process at D's school (sending in paper work for senior year so there is a little happy dance going on. Oh wait, D is applying to law school so we are still on the hook for another 3 years).

Do the awards for 2nd, 3rd or 4th year students from schools come after most Freshmen receive theirs? I am a second year student (although listed as a Junior) and was wondering how soon after freshmen receive their awards that 2nd, 3rd and 4th yr students receive theirs.

Yes, at most schools returning students usually have a later financial aid deadline (remember at many schools, incoming freshman only have about a month to review finanicial aid packages and make a decision which is why theirs are done first). Unless there has been a major change in your financial situation your package is not going to drastically change from one year from the next (unless you have merit money and you no longer meet the requirement for merit).

At my D's school the FAFSA was due 2/15 and the rest of the paperwork is not due until april 15. she will receive a new FA package over the summer.

At my DD's school, the FAFSA deadline (and their own online form) is April 1. The student gets the new FA award in June, I believe. Was very easy last yr (compared to her first yr). We were pleasantly surprised to find out they increased her school grant when she lost Fed money (because our EFC incresed).
