for 11-12 yayyyyyy!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the heads up! They didn’t even send an email notifying us that new finaid is available

seriously, they blow…hard.

So far, this looks good…very, very good.

Great $0 of finaid

Is there suppose to be a big drop off from sophomore -> junior year in terms of the Berkeley Undergraduate Scholarship?

I have a question about work study. So, it doesn’t look like I am getting any work study this year - which is bad because I just got a job for the fall semester - but I heard that you can convert loans to work study. Has anyone done this? Is it recommended? Does it go for both subsidized and unsubsidized loans?

yeah…i got fantastic grants for once this year and subsidized and unsubsidized loans. its weird though. i used up all my work study this past year but they didnt offer my any for next year so im a little ****ed at that and plan to call FAO tomorrow to appeal to switch my unsub loans to work study…yahooligans

KK: you can convert only subsidized loans

did any of you receive the smart grant this year?

B17: whoa. i didnt even know about the SMART grant!

edit: i didnt get it btw-did you? im eligible though according to the criteria…

yeah I think it got canceled. :\ Was just wondering because my FA wasn’t as good as last year due to the SMART grant missing.

SMART Grant and ACG are gone. :(

chaos: but how can you possibly get both? i thought acg was only 1st/2nd years and SMART for 3rd/4th years?

Can anyone point me out on Bearfacts where we find it? I’ve looked under Financial aid, but everything redirects me to to myfinaid site where there is nothing still for 2011-2012.

waiting4college: the same happened to me… i mean, normally it just lets us convert our loans to workstudy, which I remember doing for last year, but I don’t even see that option in the dropdown menu for loans & workstudy. I’m guessing maybe they just haven’t had a chance to fix that? I tried calling the office, but no one was there to answer for the workstudy office–how did I know that would happen? ugh.

edit: just got through, as I suspected, they told me that it’s just something wrong with the menu, and that they’re hoping the option to convert loans to workstudy button will be up in 1-2 days. and if not, and it’s urgent, they’ll convert it directly for you (as a worst case scenario)

its sorta urgent for me
my boss wants to know my availability this week and i actually had a lot of open time this week but because i have no work study for 11-12, i dont want to work at the risk that finaid wont cover my hours and i would have worked for no reason. gahhh. from what i remember, you could only convert subsidized loans right (and not unsub loans)?

^ It looks like it only goes for subsidized loans according to this: [UC Berkeley Financial Aid Office Work Study Work-Study Students Increase Your Work-Study](http://students.berkeley.edu/finaid/home/workstudents_increase.htm)

I wish we could do it for unsubsidized loans though.

You can only convert subsidized loans. Didn’t get workstudy either. That’s just booboo.

I think I read that we can appeal to get money for work study. Generally, how much work study have you guys found to be enough for the entire year?

Gah, no subsidized loans and an even more problematic lack of work study this time around. I don’t want to be taking in unsubsidized loans if I can help it.

Probably going to try and appeal this package if I can.
