FinAid/Merit awards questions and answers

I thought it might be helpful to go ahead and start a separate post for this.

It seems like a a lot of people have already mentioned being pleasantly surprised by their financial aid awards. Did most of you end up with a pretty generous award?

I had a bit of disappointment mixed in with the thrill of acceptance today when I looked at my aid package. A whopping $513. There is absolutely no way my family can make up that difference with a total yearly cost of over $50,000 now. I'm feeling really discouraged because Vanderbilt is by far my top choice school, but it's really looking like I'm going to have to make another choice. Besides work my butt of for scholarships, is there anything my family can do? I'm not totally keen on graduating with thousands of dollars of debt.

Anyone else with questions related to tuition, financial aid, and merit awards, feel free to tag on with questions! Hopefully this thread will be helpful to many people.

I think they readjust the financial aid after tax returns. The one in the acceptance packet was tentative.

Do you know if anybody has heard about other scholarships like the Carell Family Scholarship and such?

They will readjust it if necessary. Just call the office of student financial, explain your situation or special circumstances, and they will happily take another look.

But there are no guarantees of another award.
