Finaid question...

hi all~
I just logged into my cornell student center thing, and it says this:

Account Summary
You owe 18,577.00.
Due Now: 0.00
Future Due: 18,577.00

now, on the finaid paper I received a while back, it says that the estimated cost of attendance is $52,592 and my total award is $50,272. I am totally confused... helllppp?
btw, my family income is under $75k hence the $0 parent contribution but my student contribution says $2320.

& when do the FINAL finaid packages come?
thanks!

im sure that will change when the actual tuition is due

Okay so what they charge you on student center is just tuition, not room and board.

Just tuition is 18k per semester.

When your financial aid is applied to your account, you will see that number drop.

if you’re getting that much financial aid you really dont have to worry about anything even if your finaid doesnt show up on jtf by the first day of class.

do keep in touch with finaid but dont sweat it, they wont evict you from your dorm. go to classes and keep up with school.

^^ Same situation… Nothing to worry about?

I’m in the same situation. This happened last year and I freaked out over nothing. You owe nothing now. The bursar is just starting to apply charges. What happens is that the Bursar (the money processing office) applies charges to you account. This includes ONLY Tuition, Fees, Housing, and/or your Meal Plan. [chendrix Meal Plans and Housing show up too, you’d know if you reviewed your account - okay that was mean, but y ou see my point]Then Financial Aid credits your award. However, this hasn’t happened yet.

As far as I’m aware the first payment for fall isn’t due till August, but still don’t worry. I arrived on campus owing money, but simply because my loan hadn’t been processed yet. Don’t be conserned until after Registration/Orientation.

You’ll find that as time goes on more charges will be applied, but then Financial Aid will start to show up. Eventually what you owe will go down.

Really? How do you explain the fact that 18k x 2 is only 36k?

Or do I not know how to do math anymore?

And I have reviewed my bursar account, thanks very much. It specifically says this:
07/01/2009 Engineering Tuition Fall 2009 18,875.00

Oh wait, that also looks like the amount I owe for fall semester.
You’d know if you reviewed your account ;)

it think what was meant to be said is that so far the only thing applied was tuition…eventually they will add housing and a meal plan which will jack it up to maybe 23,000. Then financial aid kicks in and whatever is left should be paid starting august. At least thats what happened for me

oh okay thanks everyone. I was just having a w-t-f moment :]

^ ditto, sarita. What I mean chendrix, was that because you appeared to be a continuing student, I was baffled when you said that what they charge you on student center is just tuition. I think after reading it againn, what you meant is that SO FAR the charges that have occured are just tuition. Sorry for being snarky. You can do math, but Tuition itself is only 18-19 K.
