FinAid?

Does anyone know when we're expected to receive it? I know in the letter it said sometime next week.

I want to get my FinAid from Vassar so I can finally start comparing/constrasting my options!

Ahhhh same! I’m trying not to get too excited until I find out about aid but it’s taking toooo long. :)

I really need money. My parents are making me go where I get the most money. Right now thats 24k a year… They make 120-130k a year, expected package??

Got my financial aid info in the mail today. :)

Really? I should go check.

I got mine yesterday. But I live in Poughkeepsie so I wouldn’t be too surprised if other people’s take longer.

Finally got my financial aid info from Vassar today (Mailed March 30). So much anticipation…and it was a complete letdown. My aid was pretty awful, more than 10K less than any other school. Vassar was my first choice, but I guess this is a sign that I need to consider some other options.

I receieved $10,000 in Vassar Scholarship, $3500 Subsidized, and $1750 Work Study
Total Package: $16,000, leaving me with a total family contribution of $40,000.

Invasiondays…My parents make around 120K-130K too… Good Luck! I hope your package turns out to be beter than mine!

i’m really nervous about financial aid also. tiedyegirl, what was your EFC?

About 30K-35K. Good Luck Crimsonink, hope you get a better package than I did!

My package was very good, 5K more than any other school, even though other schools offered me merit scholarships and Vassar did not. My family’s EFC is 0. I highly doubt any other school can beat this offer!

Ours was good too. About 16K with close to 11K in scholarship. Other similar schools gave us nothing, except for merit aid at some. I really did not expect anything after seeing the other offers and our FAFSA EFC is about 10K higher than Vassar figured our family contribution to be.

Mine is excellent. I’ve got an EFC of 5100, and they’re giving me 50k in aid. I’m a happy clam. :-D

^^^^^^^^^^^^WHAT??? omg im so jealous my EFC was just a bit higher than that and they only gave me like 40k and I CANT AFFORD THAT!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

My EFC was around $4,000 and my family contribution is supposed to be $8,000 plus $2,500 in loans. I’m going to appeal.

^^^^ how exactly is it that we appeal this? like im not sure what to do because yeah idk if the financial aid office was smoking all the drugs that are at the school when they did the financial aid awards because my EFC is way lower than how much they gave me and yeah i know that the EFC is only one of the things they use but ive done my own bit of calculations and unless they want me to like sell one of my parents and/or his or her organs on the black market im pretty sure im not gonna go to Vassar…

I’m no expert, but I’m fairly certain there are instructions for appeals on the packet that came with the financial aid offer.

On another note, I just got a loan-free, $5,000 family contribution offer from Haverford. I really hope Vassar can do something for me, because this is where I want to go.

Anyone know how responsive Vassar is to financial aid appeals?

i appealed earlier this week. they gave me their decision three/four days later. they’re very quick on the response.

You guys are all very lucky!! I got my finaid info from Vassar back, and they are giving me nothing (the same as almost every other college I applied to)! Oh, wait, I forgot…they are allowing me to take out a $3,500 loan per year. My parents make too much for me to be considered for finaid, yet my parents are not giving me a cent for college costs. Oh well…Im still going to Vassar!!! :)

Can anyone explain why Vassar gives no merit money but schools generally regarded as being in Vassar’s peer group, such as Oberlin, do give scholarships? I have gotten $ from Oberlin but would love to go Vassar.
