Still eagerly waiting for a decision, I called A&M Admissions today to ask when they would finish releasing their admission decisions. The answer was "End of April". I tactfully reminded the admissions rep that many schools require a committment from students by early May. She replied that A&M still has many applications to evaluate and that all decisions will be made by the end of April.

My guess, and it's only a guess, is that A&M is delaying some admissions until they get replies from some of the students who have been admitted so that the yield can be estimated by looking at the number of students who are enrolling. If the yield appears low, then they would accept more of the remaining applicants, and vice-versa. Again, this is just speculation on the reason for their delay; I don't have any hard information to back this up.

I assume your guess is as good as any. That's crazy that they'd wait until the end of april, especially considering they require students to give them a decision by May 1st (along with many other schools).

sounds like a good theory. But I heard this somewhere before that it has to do with getting a certain quota of students enrolled (as in 10,000 precisely or something like that; not that number per se), which sounds like bs to me.

If TAMU is going to send decisions out towards the end of April, it leaves very little time for students to decide if they want to go to TAMU or not. I mean, if TAMU accepts me into the college on the 25th of April, I would basically have a week to decide if I'm going there or not (since I would have to notify them by May 1). Also, are they going to send me all the details about my financial aid and scholarships in the space of that one week? I don't know how this is going to work out. If I don't receive my financial aid info from TAMU by May 1, am I still going to be required to notify them whether I am coming or not?

Perhaps a few more people could call A&M admissions and ask when final decisions will be made. It certainly wouldn't hurt to see if we get the same story from several of their admissions people.

this mess of an admissions process is exactly why i made my deposit at Baylor today. I submitted my app in two parts, application and everything on Nov. 22 (online) i sent my transcripts (snail mail) on Nov. 25. Osaris didn't show that they had recieved all of my materials until 2/03. Thats well over two months, just to put my file together! Now here we are two months after that and still no decesion. I know its a very large school and recieves many applications, but i recieved my acceptance from Ohio St. which has more undergraduate students in 5 weeks. At the start of this year i was pretty much aggieland bound, now im so sick of waiting im heading to waco...

sorry about the rant... im just really fed up!

A large school should have a correspondingly large admissions staff. I doubt that they received an unexpectedly large number of applications this year. Yes, they probably received a large number of applications, but not any more than they should have anticipated. If the admissions department -- which is, to large extent, the marketing department of the school -- is this disorganized, it makes me wonder just how well things really run on the inside.

I think I wrote something here.
For some reason it's not here anymore.
I guess I was censored
It basically said that judging an entire school based on what you perceive to be admissions disorganization would be as ridiculous as calling stuckinohio impulsive and impatient for enrolling at Baylor because he didn't like the way TAMU was handling his application. I've had a pleasant experience with A&M admissions people, they were able to answer my questions and rectify my problems in minutes. I've had worse experiences, with namely OSU and UGA, but that still didn't change my outlook on their entire program.

The price and atmosphere of Baylor made me turn away, I'm surprised you havn't. It's a very nice campus with nice people, but def. not for me. After the first few weeks, you'll be wishing you waited A&M out.

NOTIFICATION OF ADMISSION DECISION
Admission decisions are made throughout the application period, and applicants will be notified as soon as possible. Final decisions will be announced in early December for spring admission and early April for summer or fall admission.

Clearly, the admissions process at A&M is not exactly going according to their plan.

No, I'm not saying that anything after April 4 is late April.

Certainly, though, the latter half of April is NOT early April, yet as another commenter stated, "OARAIS says that decisions are coming out from now till the end of the month."

To advertise that decisions would be made by early April and then, in early April, to state that decisions would be made by the end of April demonstrates a lack of integrity. At the very minimum, A&M should explain why decisions are delayed beyond what was initially advertised. If it's because they received, say, 20% more applications than they anticipated, the delay might be reasonable. But to just extend the date with no explanation is, to say the least, quite unprofessional.

What will they do on April 28? State that decisions will be released by May 15?

I think, for the most part, that decisions were delayed because of the security breach in the system. They didn't have access to the system and everything was delayed for a week.

Why should when they notify you effect your decision? Dont start thinking about if you wanna attend after they notify you, start thinking now, or ideally, have already been thinking all year. Rank the schools you applied to in order attractiveness, and then go to the highest school on the list that accepts you.

So I emailed admissions today to ask if my decision would be posted today and the email said that some decisions will be mailed today and more will be mailed at the end of next week.
