FINAL chance thread

White Male
Small public high school in upstate New York.
Colleges: RPI, U of Chicago, Skidmore, Vassar, Case Western Reserve, Clarkson
I have already been accepted to Roberts Wesleyan and U of Vermont.
GPA-95.07/100. My counselor says that any grade above 95 translates to a 4.0, but do the colleges see that the same way? School does not weigh grades.
Rank-7/106; top 10%
SAT Verbal- 620
SAT Math- 700
SAT Writing- 660
Total- 1320/1980
ACT- Haven't received scores

School doesn't offer any APs, just classes affiliated with local community colleges. I have taken one of the most rigorous schedules available at my school, and have accumulated 20-25 college credits.

Awards- 8 Varsity Letters, Rensselaer Medal (probably only a help at RPI), "Trivia Team" League MVP and 2nd team All-City, All-League selection in outdoor track

ECs- Trivia Team (9, 10 JV) (11, 12 V) Aforementioned awards junior year
Soccer- (9, 10 JV) (11, 12 V) Moved up at end of 10th grade, can I put a check for varsity down on my app?
Indoor and Outdoor Track- (9, 10, 11, 12 V). All-League for outdoor junior year
National Honor Society- (11,12)
Church Worship Band- I have played drums in this band for four years. Probably 120+ Hours
Varsity Club- 12 (should have joined earlier....)
American Legion Boys' State Rep- 11
Jazz Band/Concert Band- (9, 10, 11, 12)
Johns Hopkins CTY in middle school (probably doesn't mean anything)

Work experience- Worked as soccer referee during the summer between my sophomore and junior year

Essay-Chicago's essay is probably better than the Common App essay, but the teachers who reviewed the essays loved both
Recs- Should be decent. Nothing spectacular

I am being recruited for track at U of Chicago. The coach said he'll help me with the office of admissions. I know this helps my chances; but enough to get in? If it matters, I want to major in History at U of C, and Science, Technology, and Society Studies at RPI and Vassar. CWRU has a similar program. At Skidmore, I want to go for Business and Management with a Law and Society minor. I spend most of my time in sports, so I don't have a ton of time for a laundry list of ECs. Any responses would be very appreciated. Thanks!

bump...somebody?

sat's a bit low, but not for the schools you're applying to. great gpa/rank. good EC's. id say good chances at most of those.

Thanks north_face. Anyone else?

I think u will get in at all of them. Maybe not Chicago but yea.

Thanks afitscher. Any other opinions?

Okay, I got a 32 on the ACT. I know that's a lot better than a 1980 SAT. The thing is, I've already sent my SAT scores to the schools that I am applying to. I have a few questions about that. First, will the college get the ACT score in time? Secondly, will they disregard my sent SAT scores? And finally, should I apply to some other reach schools with this score? Thanks in advance.

Send your ACT to all of the schools you've applied to. I'm sure it's not too late. They probably won't "disregard" your SAT scores, but I'm guessing they'll have a new perspective on you. They'll think you're capable of doing well on tests and are smarter and stuff. That score will definitely boost your chances regardless of the SAT. If you are able to distinguish yourself and feel like working on more applications, you could do some reaches.

7/106 or 6.6 % rank with a great GPA
Athlete
Good EC's

Thank you! Good luck with your apps as well.

Bump. I might apply to Vanderbilt as well, and I would only have to send my ACT score.
