Final Chances Thread Before I apply

Hello everyone, i've posted my chances numerous times this year, but this is my final time. I have updated everything that needs to be updated.

I will be applying Early Decision for South Carolina to get the best possible advantage that I can get. Thank You

Location: Large Public High School in SC 2300 + students

Ethnicity: Indian

GPA/Rank: 4.0 UW and 5.1 W Rank 3/510
I will have taken 14 AP's by graduation.

AP Courses:

9th Grade: AP Human Geography
10th Grade: AP Statistics and AP World History
11th Grade: AP Calculus AB, AP US History, AP Government, AP Biology, AP Computer Science, AP English Language
12th Grade: AP Economics, AP Physics, AP Literature, AP Physcology

My grades are pretty good, I will put mainly the 4's and 5's for my 6 spots on the application.

SAT/SAT II's:

This is my weakest part of the application and I know will be the decider, just like the other kid on this forum.

SAT: 1320/1980 - I am going to take one more time, but I like to expect the worse, I can maybe expect a 1350??? I dunno to be sure
ACT: 29

****SAT II's: 760 - US History, 710 Biology (decent I here)

***Extra-curriculars: (strongest part of my application)

*I am the Youth Governor of South Carolina's Youth In Government Program, i serve over 1200 students all over the state and I have made significant changes to the program that will last throughout the program.

*Speech and Debate, I served last year as Captain of the largest team in SC, winning 3 state championships. I won 1 state championship this past year and I have qualified to the National Forensic League Nationals 2 times in a row.

*Boy Scouts, I am currently working on my Eagle Project in order to attain my Eagle Badge. I am working with the Red Cross, running a community-wide drive to collect stuff for "care-packages"
As a Boy Scout I am currently serving as a Den Chief, i go to Cub-Scout meetings and lead a Den every Monday, I also served as several leadership positions in my troop.

*Youth Leadership Greenville, A selective leadership program that lasted 1 year, i recently graduated, it is run by the Chamber of Commerce.

*Vision 2020 for Science, A selective group of students were chosen to design a state of the art science facility in our community, the project will be completed in December, and we all get scholarships along with it.

Beta Club and National Honors Society - Basic service and volunteer clubs, nothing important.

Basically with my EC's i like to stress Leadership and Service in everything I have done in high school, all my activities represent that. And as a leader, I go beyond serving, I try to implement changes that last.

Final words: I am doing both optional essays and the optional letter of reccomendation from a friend along with two others. I expect them to be really strong. Thank you, and i promise this is my last one.

dude you dont even need to put all that info up...if u sent them a 4.0 uw gpa and you're in state than you'd still get in. if you dont get into south carolina i will personally argue ur case.. so yes id say your definitely in

not to mention your ECs aare pretty sick..good luck man

i think he means "from south carolina," not that he's applying TO south carolina.

yeah I agree with dukebball on this one.

I think you'll be fine nmehta. I hope we both make it.

o yea srry, i didnt realize that, i meant "from SC" nor for SC,

You seem to really love Duke. With your grades, EC's, and passion for Duke.. not only do I think you have a good chance of getting in.. I feel that Duke would be very lucky to have someone like you.
Best of luck man and I hope to see you next year!

AMAZING EXTRACURRICULARS

i'm pretty sure you're in. good luck!

I really hate giving advice on whether or not someone will get in for chance threads so I won't. (from my experiences I have little faith in admissions being a logical decision, it is so hard to tell who will get in or not; also so much of it can seem like chance or luck) My only advice on that front can be to make sure that whoever you are you apply to lots of schools. (and I mean like 8 or more)

What I do want to say is that you should definitely get that Eagle. (go Eagle scouts!) Also, good on you doing the den chief thing. Of all the leadership positions I had in Boy Scouts I thought that one was one of the most rewarding/ most fun. (SPL in my troop was alright too because you were actually in charge of the troop as opposed to the adults running everything and you handing down their orders but I still liked being a Den Chief more)

Anyway I wish you luck in your application. (the Duke Eagle Scouts facebook group needs more members!)

My essay revolved around Scouts and OA; I was very involved in both. I think that's a major reason I got into most of the places I did, including Duke (my other ecs were mediocre).

Duke analyzes applications based on six main factors:
1) Coursework- Most rigorous available.
2) Grades and rank- Awesome.
3) Extracurriculars- Great.
4) Recommendations- Presumably good.
5) Essay- Presumably excellent.
6) Testing- Good SAT II's. ACT/SAT I in the bottom 25%.

Honestly, the ACT/SAT I seems to be the only thing that might keep you out, and applying ED may compensate for that. Get those scores up even a little bit on the next test, and you'd have a very, very good shot. I don't say that to many people. Good luck!

yea, duke told me they wont reject someone for 1 thing, but i found that hard to believe. I have the SAT this weekend, but im not too optimistic for some reason. I started doing great in the summer, but now im kind of back to my original score. I will hopefully at minimum be able to pull off 20-30 points, which i hope would make a difference.
