3.86 unweighted. 4.56 weighted. 4th out of 250
Most rigorous courseload with 10 APs by the end of senior year
captain for varsity cross country and wrestling (varsity for 3 years in both sports)
Is there such thing as sibling legacy? my sister goes to yale.
2 time All conference runner 2 time conference champion for wrestling, and one STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in wrestling (I'm very proud of this but I'm not sure it will count for much since I am NOT getting recruited)
Class president
distinguished AP scholar
A month of volunteer in mongolia
volunteer at gifts of love - organizing clothing and food drives.

I'm sure my recs will be great. And my essays are (I think, but not sure) great.

Please chance me. Also, PM me for my essays (non 08ers).

I’d say you have a pretty good chance at Yale, but I wouldn’t know. That’s for the college admissions officers to say…

Alumni relations are nice, but in your case, I don’t think it would really help all that much…

Also, I think the only thing bad I can say about your application is that there isn’t a bunch of leadership on it. And that you’re from Connecticut (no geographic diversity.)

Isn’t Senior Class President, varsity captain in two sports, and organizing food and clothing drive leadership? (though I suppose the last one isn’t really leadership)

Organizing food and clothing drive is a bit of a stretch.

Varsity captain and senior class president are sufficient (either you didn’t include the latter or I must have misread something, sorry about that.)

You are really close, but unless the essays are fabulous, you will probably be just below their cutoffs. (GPA is below 3.9 and SAT I is below 2200–and Yale has lots of applicants with GPAs above 3.9 and SATs above 2200).

Also, your class president and two varsity sports means you are probably the best student for ECs at your school (maybe not). To get into Yale generally you have to be best at something in your region or nationally. Figure it out–there are 1300 high schools in the US and Yale’s entering class is less than 1200. That’s less than 1 per school if they didn’t have students from top schools like Andover Academy, or internationals, or those who are connected–or if they didn’t want to take those who were super poor, but gifted.

Are you applying anywhere else? I certainly hope so. There are lots of great schools that will want you–including many of the other Ivies.

I appreciate your feedback. I’m retaking my SATs on saturday and express mailing them so they can hopefully reach Yale in time. I don’t want to sound full of myself, but I am Asian, and following the stereotype, I am smart. However, my teachers, consider me different because I am outgoing and social. I am also very close with my teachers who wrote me my recs and am confident that I will receive excellent recommendations.

As you pointed out, I also believe I need really good essays. My supplement essay and EC elaboraion (I know its hard to be creative in these 650 words for both essays combined, but I feel like I expressed my unique personality with safe humor and sincere passion)essay are superb. I wouldn’t go as far to say my why yale essay and personal statement essays are superb, but they are good.

I say your on the see-saw, and you essays will be the deciding factors. If you would like me to proof read your essay, I am quite proficient at english.

Although sibling legacies count at many prep schools, I am not aware of any colleges that count a currently enrolled sibling as a legacy. Your chances at Yale are probably slightly above average based on your well rounded profile of athletics, leadership, academics and volunteer work. Memorable profile that makes the reader want to know more about you. P.S. You may not have gotten recruited for wrestling due your high school classification and that Conn. is not regarded as a big wrestling state. Also Title IX killed a lot of university and college wrestling programs.

I really appreciate the feedback.
bandit_TX - thank you for being realistic
icy9ff8 - I didn’t get recruited because a) Yale doesn’t have a wrestling program and b) While I do love wrestling, I do not want to compete at the varsity level in college.

wait. nevermind. He’s applying to Yale law. I think that doesn’t affect me then. Or am I mistaken? Please, if anyone could give me some advice, it would be very appreciated.
