1 Teacher (very good recommendation and I can get more)

I plan to study biology and go on to medical school. I cant think of schools to take off my list. So if you were in my shoes what ones would you not apply to or would you apply to all of them. Also if you could give a reason why. I realize since your not me it may be hard. If you need more information let me know. I am just looking for opinions because I am having a really hard time with this. I appreciate it. I have been asking my parents for help but they are biased because they want me to stay close to home (but they will support me wherever I choose to go). So I am looking for an unbiased third party.

Thank You

also feel free to suggest other schools to look into

on a different i realize there is very little chance of me getting into UMich but my parents are forcing me to apply

If MSU is your top choice, then why are you applying to schools that are harder to get into that you don't want to go to (besides UMich). In other words, why are you applying to Case Western, because if you get into Case Western you'll probably get into MSU anyway.

dchow, there's nothing wrong with having a match or even safety school as your top choice.

too long. Unless you think you'll have the time for all these applications...

I don't see the problem with having more selective schools lower on the preference list. My kids all did. It does occasionally happen that more selective school offers admissions on better terms than a less selective one. Also the more selective school could be closer, a parental insistence to be on the list. You have a good list. A lot of schools but you seem to have hit all the necessary spots and give yourself good choice.

OP: Do you prefer universities or LACs? Your two safeties and Kalamazoo fall into the latter category, but the other schools on your list are large universities. Also, five reaches is too many if your first choice is MSU. Even if your parents want you to apply to UMich, that's still four other reaches of your own choice. Perhaps cut that to one or two and consider cutting one match as well.

most of these applications are on the common app and the ones that arent (that are up on the schools site) really arent that long.

Keilexandra I just want to have a balance between LACs and public universities, I honestly prefer public universities but since I plan to go to med school a LAC might be a better choice so I looked into these and put them on my list.

It looks like a good realistic list. What helped for us was to categorize the schools by when the application is due or when it would be preferable to turn it in. My D's list is long but worked out to about 3 applications being due per month since she has a mix of rolling, EA and RD. That sounded easier than trying to do 12 applications at once although we will see how it actually works out for her.

You're in great shape because Michigan State has rolling admissions. Apply there as early as possible, and if you get in there (which to me seems very likely), eliminate every school that you wouldn't consider attending over Michigan State from your list.

^ I actually hadnt thought of that

thanks

any more opinions

Yes, Steelerfan's idea is a very good one. You can get your answers early for a number of your schools that have EA or rolling admissions, but if MS is your very favorite, you could nail it with one app, holding the others until you get an answer from them. If you are looking to compare financial aid offers or merit awards, that will not work, however.

any other opinions
