Congratulations to you, your son and the rest of your family. What a relief it must be…early audition, early acceptance…it’s what the rest of the college world calls Early Decision. Lucky you, now you can enjoy the rest of the year!

Congratulations! How great to have the stress over in time for the holidays!

Congratulations! So excited for you all :)

My daughter was accepted into a MT program, but still has a couple callback auditions to other schools which she would like to attend. Is it ok to ask for an extension on accepting, or should she just accept it…knowing this may not be the school?

You don’t have to accept any offer until May 1. They are obligated to keep the offer open for you. Congratulations!

megpmom, read last year’s discussion on the Point Park sub forum… they did not hold spaces and some kids were left out in the cold. Though I do believe that is the only school where this happened.

Sometimes those early offers are worded funny and do give the impression that some sort of immediate action is expected. For example, they might imply that you need to make a housing deposit immediately or risk not getting housing. (Which I doubt is the case). However, I do not think Point Park is the only program that puts the commitment squeeze on before 5/1. They may be the only school that actually goes through with it but I know there are others that do suggest that a sooner commitment is expected to hold the early offer spot. Would (could) these schools actually rescind an offer if you wait until 5/1, that I do not know.

We were told several times via email and phone call that we were not under any pressure to make a quick decision. We were advised to really think about it. But when my son realized that he would except this offer no matter what other offers he got, he took it. The TSU family has already friended him and he feels like he is already a classmate. That being said, I know they were hoping for an early commitment from us so they could know how the class is shaping up. There were multiple calls and emails and that actually helped us rather than pressured us. We could ask questions and discuss the program. It was all really professional and I never felt we had to commit early.
