I want to add that my daughter just got a LOVELY letter from UArts thanking HER for considering them in her school search, and letting her know that their door was open if she wanted to consider them again. It was soooooo classy I need to give props to this school. It is the ONLY school that she turned down that responded to her. Actually, this school deserves so much credit in so many ways, I hated tuning them down. I LOVE that they make the pre-screen optional. That is like saying, “If you want to audition in person, you can. However, if you want to maybe save yourself a trip to Philadelphia, we have this option.” I LOVE THAT!!! They are thinking of the applicants (and their families) here, not just what is easier for THEM. On the other hand, I would give anti-props to Pace, who sent a letter CONGRATULATING my daughter on being a First Alternate, but who we haven’t heard from since. The hospitality award goes to UARTS, for sure. <3.

Calliene-I’m surprised that only one school responded back to her. As much as I didn’t necessarily expect a school to respond back to my D the majority did.

I found this thread very informative for us, Class of 2018, and want to bump it up as we enter our own “home stretch”.

LOL, this seems like 1000 years ago. Well, Addendum: AFTER my daughter turned them down, Marymount Manhattan offered my D a scholarship (she still turned them down). So they all did, except BOCO, which, if you add in the extra for an hour long voice lesson, gets awfully close to 70k a year. :/

Thanks to all for the thoroughness of your posts. Lots to take in.

I absolutely LOVE this thread and wished I had seen it before we began this process. The info in “list form” is super helpful, (it’s also super scary seeing the rejections). I hope we (2014 hs grad parents/students) can start a new thread once it’s all said and done so we can provide future parents with this info. :)

Yes, please start a new thread class of 14. As the mother of a high school junior who has decided she definitely wants to study MT in college, I found this and many other threads extremely helpful. I feel like I’m taking a crash course in MT application/audition and hoping I can cram all the info in before we’re up to bat. Thank you to all the people who have gone before, and are going through this process now and sharing your wisdom and insights. I feel equal parts terror and awe. Reading some of your posts is like reading a cliffhanger, and I can’t wait to read the next installment

mtflmomof1: It is a cliffhanger - most harrowing experience of my life (and D’s life.) So you’re way ahead of us - starting in junior year to prepare. My recommendation would be that you do things that we didn’t (causing us to be 10 times as nervous as most people on here) such as: have your son/or D go to a theatre college camp this summer, and get an MT coach if you don’t have one. Wish we had then we’d feel more equipped. Good luck next year!

I’ll also add a link to the prior BACKGROUND thread, since every year differs significantly – both in terms of the number and type of applicants AND in terms of the number of slots specific schools are filling that year.

Best wishes to all in the midst of the crazy college audition phase of your lives!!

And from 2017 cohort.
