Congratulation @MTLegacy on your son’s final decision! Texas State is amazing!

Congratulations @MTLegacy‌! Very excited for you!

bump for decsions!

I know there has to be more decisions made
 right?

I can’t wait to read them all!! So excited for all these crazy talented kiddos!!

=D>

Can’t wait to start hearing the stories of those not stuck in waitlist-limbo. Congratulations all!!

bump

I feel stupid
what does bump mean??

Brings it up to the forefront so people can find it easier. Would maybe make sense to have an admin pin it.

Every year, the MT Forum has a Final Decisions List (without background) by School and by Member Name for that year’s class. I can’t find one that was started for this year. I will create and pin those now.

Thanks, @Collegemom‌, there wasn’t one started for this year yet.

“They were right, it really does work out in the end!” -Quote from D after making her decision.

The Applications:
Applied to: Belmont, Carnegie Melon, Boston Conservatory, CCPA, Texas State, Point Park, Pace, Rider, NYU, Ithaca, Webster, Elon, Baldwin Wallace, Indiana, Cap 21. Withdrew from Wright State before audition.

Prescreens: Passed- TXSt, UMich, Elon, Ithaca, Pace. Did not pass Indiana and BW.

The Acceptances:
Boston Conservatory, CCPA-MT-Voice Emphasis, Cap 21.

Also accepted to Austin Peay, Univ. of Memphis and Drury University Theatre programs from a group audition at a state Thespian Conference. (I don’t remember exactly what degrees they offer, but she did not end up applying).

The Waitlists: NYU and Rider

The Decision:
BOSTON CONSERVATORY

The Coaching:
MTCA (Wonderful people all around!)

The Training:
D has very little training, per se, but has learned primarily from being a part of school, community and regional theater productions since she was eight years old. She has a total of about 2 years of vocal training and has taken the occasional acting workshop. She had virtually no dance training until TPAP, followed by a “crash course” of private lessons at a local dance studio to choreograph and prepare for her prescreen video. (Yes
you CAN get into BoCo without a lot of dance experience)!

Her time at TPAP last summer was invaluable training and immensely helpful for college preparation. Not only did she get a feel for the MT college life (being on campus, dorm life, intense training hours, etc), she also got to meet and work with college faculty and get a feel for the type of program she preferred. And, the many friendships she made last summer have endured.

The Auditions:
The auditioning part was a lot of fun for both myself and D. We created fun memories and had lots of quality time while visiting new and fun places. D saw old friends and made new ones everywhere we went and I was grateful for this as she had very little time to worry about being anxious over auditions.

As I’ve described in the venting thread, she had some great auditions, good auditions and some not-so-good. D and I interpreted comments made to her in auditions as signs of offers to come
which we’ve since learned was a big no-no. We had high hopes for a few schools who insinuated acceptances were imminent, only to be disappointed when the rejections came.

D has moved on, and while I still don’t understand why they say these things in auditions, I have as well.

The Decisions:
At first, pure and unadulterated TORTURE. Six straight rejections, five in one week. (Well in honesty there was one waitlist in there, but that didn’t seem to help). D’s depression, tears and self-doubt loomed like a thick fog over our household for that week. Husband and I offered to take her away for a few days during spring break. She didn’t want to go
she didn’t think it would help and she had rehearsals for her school musical.

So I went without her, HA! Got in the car and drove 7 hours to the nearest beach for a few days with my younger D. As I am getting out of my car at the beach, I get a phone call
“Mom, I was accepted to BOCO and got a scholarship!!!”

Later that day she got the email from CCPA with her acceptance.

Ah, St. Patty’s Day
the luck of the Irish was upon us. I had a green beer that night to celebrate!

As the rest of the decisions came through and with more due diligence on the schools with acceptances, BoCo became the choice for D. She loves the conservatory setting and curriculum, being in a big city, and knows the dance training will get her where she needs to be. The only downside-she knows that becoming a Red Sox or Patriots fan will result in immediate cut off of funds!

The Lessons Learned:
-Read CC religiously
-Keep the faith
-Dance: early and often
-Don’t read ANYTHING into what is said in the audition.

We wish you all the best as you make your decisions, and look forward to hearing your stories.

Congratulations to you and your daughter!!!

Congrats @Bogeyw‌ !!!

Awesome @bogeyw!!

Way to go,@bogeyw
 You’re BOCO-bound!

I know you’re all exhausted, stressed, and donut-filled, but this is the one we REALLY want to see fill up. Bumping.

I feel so happy and relieved to be able to finally write on this thread.

The Applications: American University, Ball State, BoCo, Cap21/Molloy, CCM, Coastal Carolina, Carnegie Melon, FSU, Ithaca, James Madison, Montclair State, Muhlenberg(safety), Northwestern, NYU Tisch, Ohio Northern, Pace, Penn State, Shenandoah, Syracuse, Texas State, UArts, UCF, Webster

Prescreens: Passed Coastal Carolina, FSU, UCF, and Pace Acting; did not pass Ithaca, Pace MT, Penn State, or Texas State.

Acceptances: American MT, Ball State MT, BoCo MT, Cap21/Molloy MT, Coastal Carolina MT, FSU MT, James Madison theatre and waitlisted for MT, Muhlenberg, NYU Tisch, Ohio Northern MT, Pace Acting, Syracuse MT

Final Decision: FSU

The college list looks ridiculously long, but it felt like an organic thing that grew over time. Coastal Carolina and Webster were added to the list when D did not pass the prescreens for Ithaca, Penn State, or Texas State. Pace Acting was added when D did not pass the MT prescreen but was offered a generous merit scholarship. BoCo was added when we found out they were holding regional auditions in our city before Unifieds. In Chicago, D was one of those kids that thrived on the energy and excitement. She did walk ins for Cap21/Molloy, Ohio Northern, Shenandoah, and UArts, schools she had researched earlier and liked, but were taken off the list for various reasons, including the fact that she did not have time to fit all those auditions in(hah). She filled out those applications as soon as we got home.

Training:
Dance: started at age 3, loved it, never stopped
Acting: a few years of improv classes early on, some theatre summer camps, and acting classes at her PA high school
Voice: 3 years
Coaching: started working with the wonderful people at MTCA winter of junior year

When the acceptances started coming in I was shocked. Not because I doubted her talent, I don’t, but because: she is a pretty, medium sized blond in a sea of pretty blonds; she did not pass her first 4 prescreens, a fact which caused a quiet but growing panic deep within me; and she has not been cast as a lead in a play or musical since she started high school. Not once. Wasn’t even cast in the final play of senior year. Definitely a small to medium sized fish in her smallish pond. To any future MT hopefuls who may be reading this: high school casting is not a reflection of your talent or potential, and my D is proof that the auditors recognize this.

The Decision: When this process started, D decided that for her, program trumps school and she cast a very wide net. She would have been able to get the training she wants at any of the programs she applied to. As time went on, she realized that, given a choice, what she really wanted was a BFA MT program within a large university. She’s missed out on a lot of the experiences that are typical of high school because she’s at a PA school, and she frankly never cared. Now she wants those experiences. That narrowed her choice down to Ball State, FSU, and Syracuse. All of these schools offer amazing opportunities. Even though it took her several weeks to commit, FSU was the school she fell in love with when we visited junior year, and in her heart it was the school she’d been picturing herself at ever since. With in state tuition and several scholarships, she will be graduating debt free. I’ve been doing the happy dance every since she committed last night.

Wishing happy decisions and happy dances to all of you in the midst of this process.

@mtflmomof1‌ So happy for your D’s decision! This is a crazy process! My D’s on the waitlist for Ball State and Costal Carolina , and although she is a tall brunette, maybe your D’s decision will open up opportunities for my D! LOL! Best of luck to your future star!
