Final decisions class of 2014

Well, now.... we can't let those MT kids have a final decision thread and not us...

So, let's see what you have decided. Put your CC name and chosen school once you finally decide. Don't forget to copy the list when you add yours. Some of you have so many choices. We know it will be tough. But we are very excited for all of you! Congrats!

Violetsky
Accepted: SMU, UC Santa Barbara (and safeties* Cal State Long Beach & Cal Lutheran)
Waitlist: Marymount Manhattan
Rejections: UCLA

*I put the safeties in parentheses for benefit of next year’s applicants, so they can see the names of schools we have found great theater programs at, but which aren’t the big leagues and therefore don’t merit listing on this forum’s Acceptances 2010 thread.Everyone needs safeties!)

Can someone who knows how to make a good template for this do so? With bold typeface for the member name, and the lines of text under the member name indented a few spaces, so that the member names stand out. I have no idea how to format!!! But I’ve seen it done on other forums.

I think what chrissy meant was a final decisions thread that just lists which school each member is going to matriculate at…their “final” decision. It is not meant for listing all your results. (unless you guys wanna do that of course) Just saying how it has been done in the past.

I put it in this format to make it useful to next year’s applicants.

thanks, Violetsky-- this does help for next year, and have a wonderful time at SMU!

Put your CC name and chosen school once you finally decide. Don’t forget to copy the list when you add yours.

Violetsky: SMU

how about this format, copied & pasted directly from the 2013 final decisons thread and put forward by Browneyes:

Screen Name: [insert]
Schools Applied To:[list schools]
Acceptances:[list schools]
Wait-List:[list schools]
Final Decision:[list in bold or red if you can]
Factors Considered: [brief summary such as: location, strength of curriculum, cost, etc.]
Miscellaneous: [anything interesting or unusual that can shed light on the audition process, such as: “accepted to CMU for Acting without being passed-around to different auditors”, etc.)].

I’m not ready to make my college decision yet, but thought I’d comment on the issue of formatting. While I like the format proposed by Browneyes and Ingette, I prefer the format used in the above posting by Violetsky because I agree with her (him?) that it’s more helpful to next year’s group of applicants. I like including safeties because if we all put down what schools we used for our safeties, it would really help those coming after us in this process. Coming up with safeties was a huge big deal because in this forum they just haven’t been discussed much.
Anyway, that’s my two cents. Oh, and about the indenting, we could solve that by just inserting a space between postings. Like this:

Member 1
Accepted: school A, school B, school C (and safeties school D, school E, etc.)
Waitlist: school F
Rejected: school G, school H, etc.
Decision: school C

Member 2
Accepted:
Waitlist:
Rejected:

If someone doesn’t want to reveal rejections, they can just delete those lines.

Violetsky
Accepted: SMU, UC Santa Barbara (and safeties Cal State Long Beach & Cal Lutheran)

Rejections: UCLA, Fordham
Final Decision: SMU
Factors Considered: Well-respected program (BFA). Everyone I met there; it just felt right.
Loved the campus, dorms, drama kids, curriculum. Good scholarship.

I just heard back from my last school, Fordham, so I’m ready to post my decision too. So I’ll see ya there, Violetsky!

Vanadium
Accepted: UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Chapman, SMU, Marymount Manhattan, UCLA, NYU, (and safety: Indiana U)
Rejected: UNCSA, Fordham
Final Decision: SMU
Factors Considered: BFA curriculum; campus visit was my favorite; theater students I met; students participate in shows all the time; facilities.
Miscellaneous: no financial worries for the school. (Small class size, good theater budget)

To add yours: Just copy and paste everything in the post so far, into a new post, and add your info following the above format. Leave a blank line between posts.

sandkmom’s S
Accepted: Boston College, Emerson (Writing, Lit & Publishing major), Fairfield University (Honors/Scholarship), Fordham LC (Scholarship), Hofstra (Honors/Scholarship/Safety), NYU Tisch, SUNY Binghamton (Financial Safety).
Rejected: Emerson BA Theatre & Honors Program
Final Decision: Fordham LC Theatre
Factors Considered: Audition BA Performance/Playwriting tracks; NYC location; Jesuit education and core curriculum.
Miscellaneous: Nobody understands how he could pass up NYU (the only BFA he auditioned for) but he’s always been one to carve his own path and actually decided on Fordham before we found out about the scholarship they gave him. I think he may look at NYU again in the future for an MFA but Fordham is the best undergraduate fit for him and H & I are thrilled.

Accepted: Boston College, Emerson (Writing, Lit & Publishing major), Fairfield University (Honors/Scholarship), Fordham LC (Scholarship), Hofstra (Honors/Scholarship/Safety), NYU Tisch, SUNY Binghamton (Financial Safety).
Rejected: Emerson BA Theatre & Honors Program

Drama
Accepted: Fordham (BA), Marymount Manhattan (BFA), NYU Tisch (BFA), USC (BFA), Roosevelt CCPA (BFA), LIPA, Pace (BA), Emerson (Public relations)
Waitlist: none
Rejections: BU, CMU, Juilliard
Final Decision: USC
Factors considered: small size of BFA class; campus; few GE requirements; intensity of program; performance opportunities on and off campus; los angeles weather/location
Miscellaneous: it was between USC and Tisch for me - I decided on USC because it had fewer GE requirements, it has a smaller BFA class, and it has a beautiful campus; more school spirit than NYU. The hardest part of choosing USC over Tisch was giving up on the chance to live in New York for 4 years, which has been a dream for a long time, however I ended up choosing the program that better suits me - and I know that I will fall in love with LA after living there for a few months.

Congrats to the early posters! Doesn’t it feel great?!!! :)

I like reading about the choices that you’ve had and what went into your decision and I think that it will be very helpful for Class of 2015 to read. I also think that we’re going to run out of room if everybody keeps copying it all in so I suggest this thread for the individual posting of the decision and decision making process and I’m starting a short list thread like they have over in the MT major for decisions only.

So… just post mine?

anotherday28 (Playwriting)
Accepted: DePaul, NYU Tisch
Rejected: SUNY Purchase (they’re not accepting DW majors for 2010-2011?)
Final Decision: DePaul
Factors Considered: I had visited DePaul and loved the campus, then went to the open house for the Theatre School applicants and had my interview. It just felt “right” - the closeness of the students and faculty is something I would want. The intensity and level of “hands-on” work the program offers was also a big factor in my decision. The city of Chicago itself also had an influence. Chicago is one of the best cities in the US for theatre, and I feel it places a lot more emphasis on creating, experimenting, and learning, unlike in NYC where I feel the pressure of “making it” would get to me, for sure.

DePaul was my first choice, but it became a very hard choice when I found out I was also accepted to NYU Tisch. Who doesn’t want to live in New York City?! I also liked the idea of not JUST playwriting as a major, but learning about screenwriting, playwriting, and tv writing with NYU’s Dramatic Writing major.

Ultimately it boiled down to cost, though, and while they’re both extremely expensive, I got a pretty massive scholarship to DePaul which will bring the cost down. I’m extremely happy with DePaul though, and for those who also might be wary about strictly a playwriting major, DePaul also offers a Screenwriting major or minor, so you can make your own Dramatic Writing major, in a way!

Lifeisastorybook
Accepted: BU, Niagara (Safety)
Waitlist: SU, UArts, Royal Welsh, LIPA
Rejections: UNCSA, NYU, SUNY Purchase, UMichigan, UofM (Guthrie), Ithaca.
Final Decision: BU
Factors Considered: Well…It’s the only place that I got in that I actually wanted to go to… It’s been a tough journey… :(

Congrats on BU! Great school and great program!! I’m sure you’ll do great!!! :)

Lifeisastorybook, you must be feeling shellshocked from those unfortunate denials, followed by the wonderful acceptance from Boston University (a school that notifies later than many).

But there’s no way you’re not gonna love BU!! Visit the facebook group called “BU College of Fine Arts Class of 2014” and read the glowing testimonials from current students in the discussion section, if you haven’t already.

(Note to others: It’s an open facebook group. Anybody can go there and check it out.)

Sandkmom and NJTheatreMom, I really appreciate your support! I actually joined the facebook group a few days ago, and got to meet other new students and hear what the current ones had to say. I wholeheartedly believe that wherever I end up is where I’m supposed to be, so I try to look at all of the rejections as a good thing–makes the decision easier in the end!

Ksologist
Accepted: Ithaca, Webster Conservatory, Tisch
Waitlist: Boston University
Rejections: Emerson, UCLA, CalArts
Final Decision: Ithaca!
Factors Considered: it was much more affordable than NYU. After visiting, I found the program to be extremely well run, the students were all amazingly talented and welcoming, nobody seemed bored or unhappy, the campus was beautiful, and their production of Floyd Collins was so professional!

operationgold7
Accepted: NYU Tisch, (Cal State Northridge (safety))
Rejected: UCLA, CMU, Juilliard, Purchase, Rutgers
Waitlists: None
Final Decision: NYU Tisch

Factors Considered: It’s in New York City, for one. I’m in the New Studio for Acting, so it’ll be cool to be in the very first class of it. Although it’s expensive and although I got virtually no aid, my parents make good money and are willing to pay for a good chunk of it, so I’ll graduate with a minimum amount of low-interest loans. Well, minimum compared to how much Tisch costs, at least!

Misc.: 6 of the 7 schools I applied to were “reach” schools. Top-level reach schools. And, for some reason, I thought this was a good idea at the time. I thought that I would have been admitted to several of them and that I would have a reeeeal hard time choosing. But, clearly, that’s not how it worked out. Even at schools that I thought I had a superb audition at (CMU) flat-out rejected me. I was sad and all for a bit, but I realized that these schools that only take ~16 out of 1000+ are a reach for a reason! They’re reaches for EVERYBODY, including the smartest, most talented, etc. My guess is that this is so because the schools are essentially casting an ensemble with which to work for 4 whole years. Maybe places like CMU and Rutgers didn’t admit me because I didn’t fit into their ensemble for that year. Or, maybe they didn’t like my acting. Frankly, I don’t want to know. So, my advice for people applying/auditioning next year: if you aren’t accepted, it’s NOT necessarily because of your talent. They don’t put that in the rejection letters just to make you feel better! It’s true. One last thing: It doesn’t matter how many schools you get into, because you can only attend one. NYU’s the only school I got into. I have friends who are attending NYU next year who also got into Chapman, UCLA, etc. But, we’re all going to get the same education and degree in the end.
