Final Four Chances

VillageMom why all the hate for the state?

One final note to wrap up the basketball talk. Chad Ford, the ESPN NBA Draft guru, has said that he expects all four Michigan possibles will enter the draft and leave college. He has Burke going #6, McGary going #12, Robinson #15 (had no idea he could be so high) and Hardaway as an early second rounder.

Wow 3 in the top 15 picks. Probably too much $$$ to pass up with such high draft picks. Should have capitalized last night…looks like it may be rebuilding time next year.

Oh, I don’t really hate Michigan. I’m sure I would equally hate all northern states and every province in Canada. Don’t get me started about the North Pole.

It’s the prolonnnnnged winters that do me in. I just can’t deal with the cold and drear. But Michigan’s really nice the other six months of the year!

I’ve seen another mock draft with all in the top 25 including Hardaway; all before Thomas of Ohio and Payne of the Sparty’s. incredible.

I remember being on South U after UM won the tournament in 89. Rumeal Robinson!!! Scary little bits of property destruction, but I feel sorry that current students didn’t get to feel the same exhilaration.

McGary and Richardson would be foolish to leave. Hardaway will not improve and Burke is ready, so I can see those two leaving.

But McGary’s stock is riding on a 5-game performance. Some NBA teams may be high on him now, but the hype will subside in the weeks to come and reason will prevail. You do not make a decision based on a hot streak, especially when you consider that he was not as dominant in the finals. Had Michigan beaten Louisville on another dominant performance by McGary, who knows, although I suspect that he would still have returned. But as it stands, I think he would be too much a risk. McGary will have to prove himself next season before NBA teams are ready to anoint him the best “Big Man” in college basketball.

Richardson needs to show more consistency. He has looked great at times, but not so great at others.

I do not think any Michigan freshman will leave early.

Robinson, Alexandre! That’s a few times now, haha.

See, I can’t even get his name right! There is no way he is ready for the next level! ;)

why is there even a discussion about McGary? It has been known that he will be staying, he said it 1 week ago, this was before the Syracuse but still.

[Rising pro prospect Mitch McGary to return to Michigan for sophomore season | MLive.com](Rising pro prospect Mitch McGary to return to Michigan for sophomore season - mlive.com)

Robinson and McGary will benefit from another year in college…full stop. Leaving early is certainly an option, but not a good one. I would be disappointed, albeit not surprised, if one or both of them defected…but it is not likely. If both come back, look out Big 10!

I wouldn’t say it’s not likely McGary and/or GR3 goes pro. If the pros project them in the 1st half of the 1st round there is a strong chance of them jumping. It’s not what we want as fans but it certainly is a strong possibility.

McGary could use some work but he needs to cash in now and go to the NBA while his draft stock is high. This is a down year in college basketball in terms of NBA talent; next year will be absolutely stacked and McGary/GR3 might not even be 2nd rounders if they don’t absolutely dominate at UMich next season.

With the exception of Trey who is as good as gone we won’t know about the others until they decide. A significant factor has to do with how much they like the college lifestyle and whether they think going to class is something they want to be done with.

“McGary could use some work but he needs to cash in now and go to the NBA while his draft stock is high.”

Easier path for Duke in the tournament with Michigan out of the way…

As wayneandgarth points out if the experts and advisors are saying you are in the first half of the first round…you go. (and McGary and Robinson are). Of course they could get better with another year in college but its a good bet that they won’t pass up millions to “maybe” jump up a few spots in next years draft.

I was so upset they lost!

The fact that we lost was not upsetting, but the way we lost…after leading by 13 in the first half, leading at the half and the string of bad referee calls in the second half made this a bitter pill!

Predicting the draft is very hard though. Even the draft advisory board hasn’t had a great track record - Manny Harris was told he would be drafted (he wasn’t), and Darius Morris was told he’d be drafted in the first round (he wasn’t). McGary’s stock is as high as it’ll ever be, and Robinson is all potential but hasn’t been able to shine brightly on this loaded Michigan team. I could see them both leaving, but I hope Taylor Lewan gets a chance to talk with them!

THJ to announce today at 3 pm

Guess he is going then…
