Final GPA Questions

"Final" GPA (one used for decisions/admission statistics) is calculated with the midyear report grades that Stanford receives rather than just up to Junior year grades. True or False? If true, my UW GPA could be around 3.82 as opposed to 3.77.

"Final" class rank is calculated with the midyear report grades as well. True or False? If true, my rank would jump up about 40/450 to 10/450 which is a significant increase.

When Stanford receives a student's transcript, they recalculate that student's UW GPA by neglecting freshman grades and all non-core classes. I'm not saying they won't consider freshman year from a holistic approach, but just in terms of an UW GPA approach. True or False? If true, my UW GPA will raise by about 0.1 because of my unsatisfactory freshman performance.

If the forums, in all of its infinite wisdom, could answer my questions, I would be saved a lot of stress and sleepness nights XD

Yes to both 1 and 2, although you should just double check with your school to make sure thats what they do. Make sure they send out rank. Our school doesn’t and they do rank the kids.

As for number 3, I don’t know the answer but I would call stanford and ask them. This way you can hear directly from Stanford themselves.

Thanks! I’ll try contacting the Office of Admissions tomorrow. Can anyone else confirm about 1 and 2?

Can’t confirm 1 and 2, but to my knowledge they recalculate GPA without freshman year grades. Your class rank will not be recalculated, for obvious reasons.
