Will chance back

Well, I don’t know much about any of those schools except IU and DePaul so, I’ll chance those and hopefully someone will come around for the others :)

IU - I think you’re in. Like I said in another thread, an admission counselor says they look for a 2.75 GPA to be considered. Anywhere in the 2.9-3.0 range I think gives someone a decent shot.

DePaul- It’s a minimum GPA of a 2.0 or 2.5 depending on the program. Since you don’t have 30 credits, your high school stuff will be weighed so, as long as your grades and scores there are decent I also think you have a good shot :)

Butler University just made a decision, but the representative said she’s under oath not to say anything because she’s not in admissions. She transferred me to a counselor who didn’t answer, so I guess now I have to wait 2 weeks to know whether or not I am in because I am at school right now.

Thanks elynn, hopefully you get in as well! haha see you at IUB hopefully!

Really, Butler wouldn’t tell you? That’s odd. I called a few schools and they all just told me over the phone!

AHHH hopefully that doesn’t mean I didn’t get in!! :/

I doubt that’s what it means lol she really might not of been able to tell you. Don’t worry  I get anxious too! IU is my first choice and it’s also the last one I need to hear from so, whenever I call and something seems "off"it’s because I’m always worried they’ve denied me lol

Ahhh me too! I guess I’ll just have to call my mom back at home!!

Also, can you chance me on UW-Madison?
-not sending SAT scores because I don’t think it will help me at all!

I’m out of state (NY) for all of my public schools

UW-Madison is gonna be a short reach I’d say.

“Most transfer students have a GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Please note: GPA calculations will include all grades received for repeated courses; the initial grade, as well as grades received in second and subsequent attempts will be included in the GPA calculation”

That’s all good and well but, being that you’re a freshman transfer having a 3.1 GPA just says you’re average because you haven’t taken more than 15-17 credits. I do think though, that having a good high school record could get you in. Usually, most colleges will accept transfers if their college coursework makes up for discrepancies in their high school work.

So, I’ll give this one a medium-decent shot. I feel like they’re being a little more tough admission wise then they have been in the past which makes good grades normal so you’ve got to beat out a lot of people with the same stats.

Yeah, I realize that. Being an OOS doesn’t help either.

I think I wrote very unique essays and statements. Plus, I am getting a recommendation letter sent out to them even though they are not required. If I show an improvement this semester by getting remarkable grades in the high 3s, hopefully they can look past my rough start and make a decision then. I need to find out if they need mid-term grades. I feel like more schools need to be doing this

Mid-term grades are tough because a lot of colleges don’t use them. Mine for example has mid-term grade requirements but, they don’t actually figure your grade. More often than not my professors just put straight B’s across the board because they have to submit something and some classes just don’t have enough points at the time for them to be relevant.

For some reason I want to say larger state schools don’t require mid-term reports. I’m not saying every state school doesn’t it’s just they have a lot of students to work through and 30,000 midterm grades could be a long process.

Yeah, but from my grades thus far, it seems like I have an A in all of my classes. I’m just waiting to see how my first set of tests go and then I am going to send them!

You’re probably right. I should have just done better, but there’s no way I can “restart” college so I am just going to try and improve! hopefully I can prove that I am a good candidate for the school!

Yeah, you can’t beat yourself up for it. I’m not a straight A student either and sometimes your best isn’t going to be an A. No harm really as long as you’re trying and it seems to me like you’re doing just fine :)

haha, are you an in-state student for IUB? Sucks that they don’t give out much financial aid or consideration of admission to out of state. Just gotta cross my fingers now haha

Nope, I’m from Illinois. I applied to all out of state schools though so, I’m prepared to be spending 38,000 dollars even if I don’t want to. I just had to be realistic about my options. No way I can get into UofI or Northwestern so, my last option was Northern Illinois and that’s like going back to high school, which I hated. No thanks!

It does suck that they don’t have too many option for FA and OOS students. However, I think it’s to their benefit to admit out of state simply because we have to pay more. We don’t have the option of 20,000 dollar a year…so you think they’d be all over it. I’m pretty nervous as well. My GPA isn’t fantastic and my first college semester at the end of 2007 was a disaster. All I really have going for me is a steady, major, increase in grade trends and good previous semester GPA’s. I keep reading these threads where people have gotten decisions like 2 weeks after they applied and its been over a month for me. I’m sitting here going “oh no, I suck” lol

hey eLynn07, I got into Butler! Thanks for reassuring me and keeping me sane! haha.

haha, yeah, I got a decision from Butler in a pretty short time period! Good luck!! Hopefully we get accepted to IUB!!

Yay :-] That’s good news. Congrats!

Thanks!!!

Hoping to hear from the rest soon!! Really anxious

Well, I had an update on my IU application. They’re requesting a e-mail them a personal account of my activities during the time I wasn’t enrolled in school. I’m not sure what that means for my admission however, I figured i’d share just in case you have a similar situation :)

My application still hasn’t been updated! :/

I think they just take their time. I emailed them back with what I was up to on their requested dates and I received one back at 8 this morning. All it said was that they’d add it to my application as soon as possible. I’m getting a little frustrated because 1. I just want to know if I’ll get in but 2. I need to start getting stuff together.

Have you tried calling the school just to make sure you’re not missing anything?
