I believe the cutoff date is the January 12 test date, unless you are applying to a school where there is a rolling admission. However, with the case of Rolling Admission, typically, the chances of receiving a large Financial Aid package diminishes. The majority of the FA dollars are earmarked during the regular admission period.

The schools my daughter is apply to said they prefer to have the SSAT taken by December, however they will accept the January test date.

Yes, if you registered for the January 12 SSAT, you should also designate which schools will receive your scores. Again, according to the SSAT website, the schools will receive the scores by January 25 (or sooner). That should be fine for all of the school with a 1/31/08 or 2/1/08 deadline. For the schools with a 1/10/08 deadline (Choate) or 1/15/08 deadline (SPS, Taft, Loomis are three I know of), you should let the schools know they will be receiving your SSAT scores by January 25.

Jonathan, if it were me, I wouldn’t leave it up to chance. You said you think all the schools will accept the January test date, but I would contact the schools with a mid-January deadline and let them know you are retaking the SSAT and see if they will still accept the late scores. Otherwise, you would be better off sending in your current scores and just updating them once you receive your latest scores. Whatever you do, you don’t want to be considered a “late” applicant. I think that happened to someone on the board last year–all of her stuff didn’t get in in time, so the school considered her a late applicant, even though she had the majority of her application sent in on time.
