General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I am EXTREMELY happy!!! My advice for RD people would be to work hard on your subjective parts of your app. Yale isn't likely going to care if you increased your SAT score by 50 points, so spend that time completing the app, rather than waiting til the last minute.

i am so happy....lol

judging by this thread the Yale decisions def came down to letters of rec and ESSAYS...because to me you all have the same stats (very strong group) lol Won this...did that....achieved this...

Decision: Accepted

Stats:[ul]
[] Fee Waiver Used?: No
[] SAT I (by section): 2400
[] SAT IIs: 800 Math IIC, 800 Chemistry, 790 Spanish W/o Listening
[] GPA, Weighted and Unweighted: 3.99 UW, 4.44 out of 4.8 W
[] Rank: N/A
[] ACT: N/A
[] APs (including this year's): all 5s so far; Sophomore: Calculus BC, Chemistry, European History, Spanish Language; Junior: US History, Spanish Literature, Statistics, Computer Science A; Senior: English Literature, Biology, Psychology, US Government, Macroeconomics
[] IBs (including this year's): N/A
[] Senior Yr Courseload: AP English Literature, AP Psychology, AP Biology; First Semester: Honors Multivariate Calculus, Ethics, International Issues; Second Semester: AP US Government, AP Macroeconomics, Western Political Thought
[] Number of Apps from Your School: 4 EA, not sure how many regular but a lot
[] Other stats (Awards, etc.): various national debate awards, JETS awards (1st in CA), Brown Book Award, National Merit Semifinalist, AP National Scholar, National Spanish Exam National 3rd Place, some other stuff
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] ECs listed on app: (in order) Policy Debate (Captain), Judicial Committee (elected school leadership; Chair), Junior State of America (State Cabinet, various positions), Mock Trial (Captain), Cross Country (3 years Varsity), Congressional Student Advisory (2 selected reps from each school), Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS); (in additional info) NHS (committee chair positions, Leadership Award), piano (CM Advanced Level), art (Scholastic Golden Key award)
[] Job/Work Experience: internship at law firm, internship for Assemblywoman
[] Essays (subject and responses): First one was the typical "how an experience changed my perspective" response - I talked about how an event at my internship showed me how laws can really impact people's lives. Second essay was more abstract and was about me looking down from a plane and relating that to my life. My counselor liked both essays. I didn't think either of them was spectacular, but I guess they'd be considered pretty good.
[] Teacher Recs: One from my APUSH/International Issues teacher, was probably great. The other one was from my Spanish Lit teacher. I got my only B+ in her class but steadily improved my grade; counselor read the rec and said it was "really good."
[] Counselor Rec: Good, really personal.
[] Interview (feel, interviewer and general location): At interviewer's office. It was really short actually (30 minutes) because I think she wanted to get home since it was right after work. My interview was kind of different because she wanted me to ask her questions instead of the other way around, and luckily I had a lot to ask :).
[] Hook (TASP, RSI, Research, etc.): Umm, none of the above? Well I go to a really good high school that has good relations w/ colleges, and we send 1 person early to Yale each year, and this year I guess it was me! But besides that, no real "hook."
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: CA
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Private, sends a lot to HYPS each year.
[] Ethnicity: Chinese
[] Gender: F
[] Income Bracket: Upper-middle class
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): More hooks? Still none of the above.. maybe being a first generation immigrant (i.e. I wasn't born here)?
[] Strengths: Good scores, hard classes, decent ec's.
[] Weaknesses: A bit too scattered, no real hooks, not that much community service.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I think that my courseload really showed that I could handle advanced topics in a lot of different areas (math, history, language, science, etc.), and on top of that, I had good ec's for someone with good scores and good grades. I didn't have one part really stand out, so I guess overall they saw something they liked =).
[/li]

[/ul]Other Factors:

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Congrats to everyone who got in, and GOOD LUCK for those of you who were deferred! I def can't wait until next year, but for now, I can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy SECOND SEMESTER!!
