Final Pton Advice for a Minority

<p>Hey guys, so this is about it for me...as far as my transcript goes. I took some previous advice and mangaged to drastically improve my SAT scores. In additon, my essays are unique and they give a deeper picture into my personality, background and thought process. SO, do I have a compelling shot at Princeton? Thanks for all your advice and comments!</p>

<p>Location: Oakland, CA (Incredibly diverse student body, rough parts of town, infamously known for gang violence...)</p>

<p>Ethnicity: Persian/ Filipino (My mom is part Spanish, could I mark Hispanic on my application? I'm really having problems identifying my ethnic melange.) </p>

<p>Low Income, 1st in my family to go to college...</p>

<p>I think you look pretty good. When you sent your Questbridge app to Princeton, were you invited to the flyback weekend? If so, that's a good sign.
I wouldn't mark "hispanic", multi-racial is probably closer. Since you are first gen, low-income and high achieving, you are attractive without stretching the truth.<br>
Are you in public school? How many kids from your school will apply to Princeton? Those factors will also influence your chances.
Get great recommendations (maybe also one from a non-school community member,) write great essays, and go for it! But hurry up! It's December 19th.</p>

<p>why are your SAT's so low and your APs so high?</p>

<p>i think the SATs might weigh you down. yet, the race thing and coming from oakland (i am a bay area baby) might bump you up.</p>

<p>oakland is a ****ty place (sorry) and its impressive what you've done because i know their public schools have been facing a lot of bad times lately with a lack of teachers, etc.</p>
