final transcript problem

I recently applied as a transfer student to Virginia Tech, which is my dream school, and was offered admission. However, while my first semester grades at college were good enough for me to get in, my second semester grades are horrible. I may have an F in one class, and Cs and Ds in the others. I have had a lot going on in my life, including family and personal problems, and I took an extremely heavy course load. Can VT take back their offer of admission? Should I contact them and explain my situation, and if I do, will it even make a difference? I'm sure they get tons of kids explaining their problems.

Yes, contact them and explain your situation. I don’t know how common that is but I’m sure it happens.

Just be honest and good luck!

^ Do what the above post said. If your current bad coursework is any of the prereqs for your major, they may likely rescind your admissions.

How would I go about contacting them? Through email, phone? Should I write a personal essay?

It’s up to you how you go about it, but I would do a phone call. Try to talk to the person who is most in-charge. Talking to the Dean of Admissions (or Dean of Transfer Admissions) is your rest bet in this situation. Also, have a few points written down before you call–you could even practice what you will say.

Just be sincere and honest. If it’s your fault, admit to it. No one likes excuses, and I suggest you do this as soon as possible.

I’m sorry about your situation. I would agree with the above post. Let us know what happens. Hope things work out for you.

im in the same boat as you. I plan on waiting for my final grades to see what i can get before i contact them

I am in the same boat. I had all As and Bs good grades my first 3 semesters. I got into VT for Fall 09 and Im worried about my final transcript(Spring). I have all Cs and a B. Do you think they will rescind it?

Call and ask if it will be a problem. You don’t have to tell them who you are. Just say you are a transfer student and tell them about your problem. They will most likely not ask for your name.

There is a very high chance that they could withdraw your offer if you have C or below in any of your courses and you probably have to notify them by writing.
Here is the website about sending a final transcript.

They withdrew it. They said it didn’t matter what circumstances I went through. Thanks for everything everybody.

You were rescinded? How sad.
