Final vs. internal IB grades

Hey everyone,
So I have a question about IB internal vs. final grades that may be particularly relevant for International students. In the UK, admission to university is entirely based on final grades, but my understanding is that, in the US, internal grades given by subject teachers also count (or even count more than final IB grades).

So my question is this: If you have your final IB grades (because I’m taking a gap year before applying), would American UNIs care about your internal grades/predictions that your school has made during high school?

//I know this is probably a tricky question…Despite that, any responses would be very helpful!

There probably isn’t an absolute answer, but I’ll turn it around and say that US unis know that the UK emphasis is on the final grade, not continuing assessment, so if your final scores are very strong you aren’t likely to be penalized for lower internal grades. I am not sure that would be as true for a US student though.

There is probably no blanket answer. But in general for US universities, unless your final IB grade (which I interpret to mean as the score on the IB exam) replaces the internal grade on your transcript, your transcript grade is the more important.

Thank you both for this input!!
On a related note: What would you say is the IB score at which top 15 schools in the US start looking at other factors besides grades?

38+, but really, there is a lot more to the equation than just grades.

Alright, thanks.
38+… With or without the three bonus points (TOK/EE)?

With. But again, don’t get hung up on one number.
