Yes, we also rec’d something yesterday from our district (and a college) inviting us to a program honoring Finalists. Something is “off” in a system when schools know information about your child before the parents do.

S is officially a finalist per school GC.

Is there a NMSC preset date that schools aren’t allowed to notify NMF students before?

Congrats to all who made it so far!

This question comes up every year…there is a PUBLICATION date the school is asked to meet, and some schools take this to mean they can’t tell the finalists / families…but they can.

Received e-mail from Counselor this morning that S is Finalist!

Now, he needs to update all 12 schools he has applied to.

how and why? do all of them off merit to NMF?

DH got call from principal - DS is a finalist. Good luck to all those still waiting to hear!

Still no word.

Well, it could improve admissions chances. College certainly like to brag about how many NMFs are in a given freshman class. And some schools give some “unofficial” merit to NMFs (it isn’t formally on their websites, but NMFs seem to get a boost in the merit aid offered). I am thinking of Macalester specifically, but I am sure there are more. My D will be letting all her schools know. Although she also needs to send them a notification of a schedule change anyway, so she will probably combine into one email.

Haven’t heard anything yet here in Maryland.

If you were to let the schools know about NMF standing, who would you send the e-mail to? My D has applied mostly to large universities. Do you think finding out and sending to her individual admissions counselor would be the best bet, or can we just send to the admissions office and let them sort it out?

Would there be value in sending to schools where she’s already been accepted? Or would that be weird? Or maybe we call the school to find out what they would like - maybe it needs to be sent to a scholarship committee? Anyone done this before?

I’m in AZ and was notified today.

Sent from my ADR6400L using CC

My son was notified at school today. :-)

Son will notify all colleges he has applied to because:

For those whose decisions haven’t been released it may boost his chances.

There are a few schools he has been accepted to and the merit has not yet been released - this may help with merit.

2 of the schools he has been accepted to have competitive full tuition scholarships if you are chosen to interview - both indicated NMF will be part of the decision if he is chosen.

One school with “guaranteed” NMF confirmed to him in writing that if he received NMF he must forward the certificate.

The e-mail will go to his regional Admission Rep at each school and the Scholarship department if the school has one (the larger schools).

Another day, no notification. School has 11 semis and no one has heard anything. Not sure if this makes me feel better or not. This waiting is KILLING me.

My school notified me today - I’m a finalist!!

Has anyone heard anything positive re: appeals?

Have you called the school? Our counselor said they got the information yesterday.

My school just received it today. Accepted!

My school notified and gave me certificate today- accepted!

Son just learned from his GC that he was one of two NMFs at his 5A high school.

What would be an easy way to update some of the universities he applied to of his NMF status?
