Finalist Notification

S received his finalist letter from NMSC today in Virginia, letter dated 2/7/2011. Still nothing from his school although the letter says a certificate was sent to his principal.

So still waiting in NJ for letter. It must be because we no longer have a post office in town due to Hurricane Irene last year and now get our mail through another town. However, the high school made the formal announcement today and DS is a finalist along with 3 others. We are so proud!

Just got my letter today in MI. My school told me they haven’t received anything yet though…

Got letter today in TX. Haven’t heard from school though…

Guidance counselor confirmed our daughter was on the finalist list, but no official word from the school. Still haven’t received the letter in DFW.
I had a mailbox full of my next door neighbors’ mail today. It’s like a cruel mail joke, huh?

Letter came in MN today confirming D as a finalist. School has not mentioned it yet.

Was beginning to feel left out! S got his letter today in NY.

S got his certificate at school today and we also received his NMF letter in today’s mail. We’re in Texas.

Son has heard nothing from his H.S., but he got the letter from NMC in the mail today (in Tennessee)! We are so proud - and he is so relieved and excited.

I got the letter in Florida today. Nothing from the school yet.

Just got my letter in Florida! :D

FINALLY got my letter in Texas! My high school didn’t mention anything though - I had to find out through the letter to my house.

Finally received letter in mail today in OK. No word from high school.

Got an envelope from National Merit Scholarship Corporation just now, here in Idaho, but DS is on a airplane. If the envelope should happen to fall onto a sharp kitchen knife, I think I would be able to report arrival of good news. However, I don’t open my children’s mail, so it will remain a mystery until later tonight. The school hasn’t said a thing.

Love it, riverrunner. My mom used to open all my mail. I hated it.

Received letter in mail in MN today. S at school till 9 PM with math competition and Green Team so I called him and was lucky to catch him between activities. He had me open the envelope while on the phone. Finalist! Honestly, riverrunner, you can count on it at this point! Not a peep from our school! Taxes, CSS Profile, FAFSA, IODC–all done…Now, it’s just a waiting game. S is accepted at both safeties, where he will have close to full funding. His heart is set on LAC (and we agree it would be best fit), and he won’t hear from those until late March and then there is the funding. Our EFC is laughable (about 5x what we can afford), but still hoping for a miracle or a massive raid (with penalties) to the retirement fund. Wow, and many of you have more than one kid! I don’t know how you get through this!

Congrats to everyone who received their letter, and hang tight to those who did not. I bet it is in route and slowed down by some of the weird weather going on in all parts of the country. It will come, even if your school hasn’t said boo!

Acceptance finally arrived in CO. No word from school here either. Glad I knew it was coming; D saw it and handed it back saying she didn’t want to read it, assuming that a “normal” letter was a rejection. I was able to tell her with 100% confidence it was good news.

Has anyone in Georgia received a letter yet?

D got hers today in Ohio, and I know for sure of one other in our HS as well in the mail today. No mention at school.
