Hi everyone, I was just notified that I am a finalist for CBH, and I am also a finalist for UFE, so it looks like a four day weekend for me. I was wondering if someone who has been to either, or both for that matter, of these finalist weekends could give some insight about the weekend.

Also, to any parents who have been, do you think I should bring my parents, or would they just be sitting around? (I am from Tennessee, so the drive isn’t too bad)

I went with my son, however many kids don’t bring parents…so, either way is fine.

When I was there, I visited with other parents (mostly sat in the bar at night and had margaritas. LOL ). But, it sounds like Capstone hotel is too booked for parents to stay there, too. (BTW…Bama needs another more upscale hotel close to the school - or at least expand this one!)

I was only there for the 2 day event. I don’t know if Bama has ever held UFE and CBH “back to back” like this. When my son went thru, UFE had their interviews several days later, and so kids who were invited to both just came once and did both interviews on the same day.

It might be too boring for your parents to just “hang out” for 4 days, unless they’re the type to enjoy a good book and just relax. Were you going to bring one or both parents?

Well I talked to my parents and it looks like they will not be coming, so that throws that question right out the window. I think you’re right though, four days with nothing to do is not a good scenario. In addition, my mother has already seen the campus on Capstone Scholar’s Day.

One thing I am still curious about (although you may not be able to answer this Mom2) is what will we - the finalists for both honor programs - be doing in between the two sessions? Fellows finishes sometime Saturday afternoon and CBH starts late Sunday afternoon.

Regardless, it sounds like a lot of fun.

By the way, Mom2Collegekids, I just want to personally thank you. Reading the material you have written on CC is one of the main reasons I became interested in UA, so thank you very much for the information you provide to prospective students like myself!

Egreen (and others!) You’re very, very welcome!!! Glad to help!

Others can correct me if I’m wrong, but I think this is the first year that Bama has run the interviews “back to back,” so I don’t know what they’ll do with you from Saturday afternoon til Sunday afternoon. I would call Jami Gates and see if anything is planned. jami gates 205-348-5599 jami.n.gates@ua.edu If nothing has been planned, it sounds like something needs to be planned! :)

This year they are also giving kids their own rooms, and parents can stay in the same room. When DS1 went, the finalists shared rooms. This explains why Capstone Hotel is booked. Bama probably booked all/nearly all of the rooms. LOL

Bama is also letting the UFE only kids stay over Saturday night if desired. Likely, the CBH kids can come early…so check.

At a minimum, those of you on this board who’ve been invited to both events (or are staying the extra day) could always get together and explore The Strip.

I just saw this on the Capstone Hotel website…

All our guests in Tuscaloosa enjoy free parking, room service, on-campus courtesy car, fitness facility, easy access to University of Alabama tennis courts and Olympic-size pool. Relax and enjoy, we’re here to provide you with the ultimate in hotel services and amenities in Tuscaloosa.

I don’t know what that “on campus courtesy car” means. I don’t know if it’s a shuttle service or what. It looks like you would be able to use the Bama Fitness Center, but I’m not sure how you’d get there - other than using the Crimson Ride Perimeter Route.

On weekends the Crimson Ride runs Perimeter Routes which end at 9pm.

[CrimsonRide - Transit Visualization System](http://ua.transloc.com/) On this map, Capstone Hotel isn’t shown, but it’s on Paul Bryant & 5th Ave. There are bus stops at Mary Burke Hall (on both sides of the street, depending on what direction you want to head.)

The baseball field and Moody Music Building stops would are also a short walk from the hotel. I’m guessing the on-campus courtesy car is a car that will drive you anywhere on campus like the luxury hotels in big cities often have. I don’t know if they’d let UFE/CBH finalists use the 348-RIDE service or not, but it seems like the on-campus car is the same thing. Congratulations to you and the many others on this board for being chosen as finalists.
