finalizing an application

i have a quick question

is it okay to finalize an application, without the essays and supplements yet, and send the recommendations and others later?

like let's say I give my teachers and counselors envelopes so they can send their recommendations, but i haven't started or begin on their applications yet. what would happen? i haven't signed up for the colleges yet but im planning to give my envelopes to my teachers/counselor. what happens when they recieve it but im not on their college list of apps yet?

You can send in your teacher/counselor paperwork before you send your portion of the application - the college will just start a file for you and wait for the rest. Does that answer your question?

Not sure what you mean by "finalize." For some schools, you can quickly fill out an easy Part 1, which is basically your name, address, school you attend, maybe the courses you took -- you can submit that and a file is started.
For what it's worth, the counselors at my daughter's school recommended that no transcripts or recommendations be sent until the application or part of the application is submitted because it increases the likelihood of transcripts/recs getting misplaced.
